I'm not sure I get why they kept him around for so long if he was expendable as soon as WR went down...

Word is the Steelers made this move Sunday and announced it today, to help Ta'amu slip through waivers. It's possible that he's already cleared.

Are they allowed to do that??

I mean, good trick if they did... but why would anyone announce any player was out if they wanted them to pass waivers?

    I assume it's allowed.

My guess is it becomes public (media) knowledge when they announce it today, but all of the other teams watch the waiver wire constantly and see who's out there.

I don't know all the rules, so I am just speculating here. But my guess is any team that picks him up would have to put him on the roster, versus their practice squad. Given his pending suspension, perhaps the other teams will not be so quick to go for the deal. If Brown is healthy next week, perhaps he is back on the roster. Or if he makes it to the practice squad he may well stay there, given his pending issues.

Can't see anyone picking him up off waivers with his pending legal troubles. Dude could be going to the pokey.

If we can keep you around for as long as we have...I think Ta'amu can stay around for a while too.

i think you can claim waivers and put on your ps , you have to put on the roster only players you pick from other ps

not sure about the first part second part is true
if you sign someone from another team's ps they have to stay on your roster the rest of the season
from the reports I read really sounds like this guy should be hoping to make someone's 2014 roster at this point

the rule says waivers are free agents , so if they are ps eligible they can be put there , if you pick somebody from other ps you need to active him on the roster

It seems like the Steelers have basically been saying with our last two cuts (Saunders and Ta'amu).... "We want to bring back class to this organization and get back to having the reputation that had seemingly disappeared over the last few years about taking players on our roster who demonstrate character over ability. (Yes, I recognize that may not appear so with Big Ben. However, I will always believe that the Rooneys were more instrumental in Ben's suspension than any of us will ever know. And, maybe, more so than "Roge the God"!) It does seem to have gotten Ben to get his act together and settle down.
