Edmunds needs to be gone. No doubt. He might be ok as a backup but he'd have to take a lot less money than he's going to be looking for.

This offseason is particularly interesting because of the relative dearth of players signed beyond this season. So the team can pick the direction it wants to go in terms of the priority in gives in the allocation of draft and cap stock. (For that matter, Colbert himself is a question mark past the draft.)

While it doesn't necessarily change the opinion Minkah or another team may have in his contractual worth, a couple of things the Steelers may have in favor of avoiding Adams-like numbers would be the relative drop in production of both players this season. Adams has gone from a peak of 9.5 sacks last year (playing in only 12 games) to 0 thus far this season (12 games in). His tackles for loss have dropped from 11 to 4; QB hits from 14 to 2.

Minkah's numbers are a little more stable, but have been less dynamic overall. For instance, he's never had a sack, his career high in tackles for loss is 2 (2018), and QB hits 1 (2019). He appears to be on path for a career high in tackles, having 56 over 11 games (60 in 16 games last year). He has only 2 interceptions, but is listed for only 3 passes defended (previous low was 9 PD in 2018 & '19). Obviously, he plays a different game.

Whether the respective production dips are a result of changes in personnel or scheme is up for debate, but it could cause teams to reconsider how much money they want tied up in a safety position. The most percentage of cap Polamalu ever accounted for was 8.1% - his tenth year in the league, on a contract backloaded and compensating for prior performance. Adams is on pace to account for 8.0% of the Seahawks cap by his seventh year, and 9.2% in his eighth.

Edmunds could very well be; Safety possibly being an early need for the team as a result unless Tre Norwood can be a solid box safety. His skills seem to be better suited as a slot corner rather than a Strong Safety. Realistically speaking, if only talking about Strong Safety alone, Jaquan Brisker and Jordan Battle are the only two that would be warranted to be drafted in Round 2. Beyond those two, not too many other names.

I think they have to keep Minkah. I also have been watching how they have been playing Him differently this year. Because of a lot of no Haden, and they don't say it, but they don't trust T. Edmunds. Just Steelers way of ...if You spend a 1st round pick on someone....they will play until they are gone....good ,or not.
Get at least one Cb position fixed, and T. Edmunds gone, and You will see a better Minkah.
Watch him, and just him some time on a rewatch. They are asking entirely 2 much from him.

There’s a viral video of him getting absolutely pancake blocked during the Denver game. Going nowhere but backwards

Not a top 5? He’s been in the league three years and has made All Pro 2 of them. What other free safety has done more?

Not sure if it's mentioned but a BIG adjustment comes my ticking the post June 1 cut.

I see a potential 10 mil or so there between ben ebron and shobert.

I think shobert stays but just mentioning.

Edit. My b actually ~20 mil between the three

Edmunds plays because there is not a better option at MLB, same reason Bush stays on the field.

I think they try to keep Edmunds on the cheap.

However, next year, I don't think anyone league wise will be on the cheap.

There is going to be a ton of money thrown around next off-season because of previously mentioned items of cap increase and tv deals coming through the following year.

Tj won't keep the record very long.
