Steeler Depot article. This will not end well.

I love Steeler Depot, but I got to laugh at some of their articles, they'll have bolier-plate template intros that are half the article.

 

We’ve been running Dick Lebeau’s defense for the most part. Tomlin clearly has put his mark in it and calls most of the plays and game plans. Didn’t think this was new to anyone if you've been following the team. Butler knows the zone blitz scheme as well as anyone. He’s been coaching our LB’s for a very long time. Im sure he’s very involved with the designs and practices of alot of our plays.

 

LeBeau didn't run a one-gap cover-2, he and Butler ran zone-blitz with two-gapping DL.

 

I'm just shocked that you would interpret it this way. Shocked!

 

It's curious how you don't see much of this crap when your team is winning games regularly.

 

I believe this would be the "turn". We already had the "pledge" but we aren't really watching because we want to be fooled. Once we get to the "prestige " it will all be worth it. Maybe.

 

By all means, let's see you support that last statement.

I was referring to posters here, but yeah, it's not surprising that you would post that Tweet again even though it doesn't even prove she was wrong. He could have raised his arms, then turned around and done exactly what she said. (I don't think that is what happened, but you keep posting this as if it is a gotcha and it isn't. It does not prove your accusations that the story was fabricated.)

McAfee has a bit of a chip on his shoulder about traditional media. I've heard him talk about it. It's part of his persona, the guy who bucks traditional approaches to things. I am a fan despite some of the dumb **** that occasionally comes out of his mouth. He's no journalist, but he is entertaining. He has been that way since I first met him when he was playing high school football.

 

That is the essence of the media today. You have one knucklehead spewing crap with no evidence, and a second knucklehead writing an article about the first knucklehead and even telling his readers that there is no evidence and it may not be true. Two media idiots, two false reports, no evidence, and this is why I say what I do about them. JMO>

 

Hard to judge anyone in this organization. Who is doing what? Allegedly, Butler isn't really a DC per the above posts, Tomlin is both a DC and a HC, Colbert is allegedly the GUY in charge of talent acquisition, Rooney may also be doing GM work in making deals with Ben and who knows who else. MT is most likely involved with who we draft as well. So, you want to blame Colbert on who we draft? I'm ok with that but honestly, I don't know if it's just him that needs to be blamed. JMO>

The biggest problem with your post is your claim that the report is false. I keep seeing it time and again on this board, posters attacking the media so they can dismiss reports they don't like. This particular member of the media was right about Ingram. Her report about Haskins perfectly fit in with his past and what evidence we do have. This new report seems odd to me, but I haven't seen evidence that it is false. I haven't even seen a denial yet.

You predicted I would respond? Great. I predicted your post well before you wrote a word on this thread. That's what the line about the usual suspects was about, though it's not just you who has a problem with her.

I am sorry that you feel the need to blame me for your lack of clarity, but let's talk about these two people in the business. My response to the McAfee thing was that it wasn't new. You keep posting it as if it is some big deal. McAfee isn't a journalist. He's an entertaining former athlete with a chip on his shoulder regarding journalists. He loves to brag about how people, including the media, questioned his big decisions in life along the way and he always ignored them and bet on himself. It's part of his persona. I really enjoy listening to McAfee, but let's remember where he's coming from.

Have you ever even heard of the other guy in the business you brought up? He is a general assignment reporter who occasionally gets to write something about the Steelers, not somebody who is around the team all the time. Where are the people who regularly cover the team? Why aren't any of them calling her out?

And to your point B, that simply isn't true. Showing the split-second reaction doesn't show the entire reaction. You would see this if you weren't so dead-set on attacking everything about that particular reporter.

Also, spare me the bit about being lazy. I did a search. The only thing I found beyond what you have posted is that she apologized, got two different plays from the game mixed up, and praised Brown for his talent and work ethic. I have not seen video evidence either way. To be clear, I have consistently agreed that she screwed up. I just know that you have presented no evidence that she fabricated a story, yet you keep making the accusation.

 

Butler makes most of the calls, just watch the game, he always has his playsheet and you see him talking into his headset a lot more than Tomlin when they're on defense.

That doesn't prove he is making the calls.

To be fair, I think she overstated her point, but I do find it interesting that nobody from the team is calling bull****.

 

She is a reporter for a national network. Her reports get plenty of air time.

They don't have to call her out. They can report on the topic and do their best to prove her wrong. That is to their advantage because it would show that they are more reliable sources of information about the team. They would actually benefit from doing that reporting.

Instead, all you get is an entertainer who is not a journalist and a general assignment reporter who occasionally gets to write about the team. Given that they are the only ones calling her out or refuting her stories is telling.

She was right about Ingram. Her report on Haskins has not been refuted. This one seems more dubious than those. Let's see if someone with actual knowledge of the situation actually counters her claims.

Also, it's not stupid at all to believe Butler doesn't design defenses. Where is your evidence that he does design them? I have a much harder time believing that he never calls a defense, but even that is not a sure thing.
