    He won't be.

Its high time to finally get rid of Butler, promote Teryl Auston to defensive coordinator and have Tomlin step away from the defense.

The thought that Tomlin is protected because of the Rooney Rule or that he's black is laughable.

    a) The NFL two years ago fired six black HC's and there was hardly a peep.
    b) He's been the HC for 15 years, for pete's sake.
    c) The Steelers would get criticism for firing an HC perceived by the rest of world as a very good HC, but not for firing a minority HC. He's the second longest tenured HC in league.

He's being kept, for now, because the Rooney's love being known for the Steeler Way of not firing HC's. That, way more than anything else, is keeping Tomlin employed. It's not fear of criticism from whomever, it's the exact opposite. It's hubris. It's the attitude that this is how we've done it and we're going to keep doing it this way.

    why do you say “us”?

Did you also mix together use his poor coaching and skin color as a wildly dumb reason why he isn’t on the hot seat or fired too?

I believe that once Ben is gone and we still look as bad as we’ve been for years (or most likely worse) then Tomlin’s seat will get hot fast. Especially if we have a decent QB.

I believe the Rooney’s are trying to keep as much stability around as they could while they had a franchise QB to try and pull a rabbit out of the helmet. I think they thought they had enough parts around to make noise if the moon and stars aligned. But many (most?) of us didnt…

Not some silly racist political motivation.

They should have traded Tomlin away to Washington two years ago when there were rumors and the draft pics were high and gone after Mike McCarthy. At least he has a Super Bowl on his resume. The Crygirls have made some strides since he showed up.

Because it's as simple as that never a losing season stat. Even if Tomlin was white, he'd still be safe because it's tradition and AR2 is wishy washy as ever as an owner. Guy can't even fire a bad coordinator and instead just waits for the contract to run out. That's either being cheap or just cowardly. Probably both.

    you are probably right.

if you think its a good idea for Tomlin to fire the only coach on the roster that has shown any ability to produce a functional unit then sure.. if it needs to happen to get Tomlin out of hear then fine.

I’ll remind you that Tomlin already fired Todd Haley and bruce Arians so he could install Randy Fichtner and Matt Canada the last two seasons. So sure lets play this game again… let Tomlin pick his own coordinator again . Im sure it will be great this time.

    a) the media actually made a big deal about this at the time. But the owner's didn't squirm about it. I feel like Art definitely would, as he seems to lack a spine.

Tomlin only fired those two because ownership directed him to do so.

Fans who say the problem starts at the top are right. The problem is half of them think the top is Tomlin. It's AR2

Funny to me how tomlin defenders are quick to fire his coordinators . They’re ok to watch futility for over a decade but want the coordinators gone the second they fail.

In the last 10+ years Arians, Haley , and Butler were the only coordinators to produce good units .

both o coordinators were fired for Finchter and Canada … what we have now is what tomlin wanted.

Now we want to fire Butler so Tomlin can hire his own d coordinator? Jesus. Cant wait to see how that turns out.

Butler didn't do squat until he had 9 first round picks in the lineup.

    Lol…

I actually never brought up the word “racist” but you can keep being upset about that notion.

Ever heard “Doth protest too much” before? I’m not saying your guilty, buuutttt…

Ive just repeatedly said you were bringing in dumb and wildly off-base political statements into the conversation and for what reason/motivation - I have no idea.

But I do see, read, and hear people with a second agenda do it constantly and it’s nauseating. It instantly loses the other people in conversations and leads them right into not taking your other points seriously and loss of intellectual credit because what you really want to bloviate about more is not really the actual topic at hand; it’s your politics and world view.

Not saying I want Tomlin to stay but Butler's time should be expired. Austin is the senior defensive assistant.

Just my opinion, but I don't think AR2 is spineless. He's more unimaginative or maybe just plain stubborn. The thought of deviating from the Steeler Way is anathema to his way of thinking.

and yea the Rooney’s are so meddling. Didn’t realize you had an inside info on the workings of our front office.

I always wonder who’s had the most weight in those decisions. Basically, who can we really point the finger at?

Maybe it’s the Rooney’s and/or Colbert all along and THATS also why Tomlin might still be around. Maybe because he wanted to make other moves that time has shown would possibly have been better.

I think blame can be spread well into the organization, but it’s easy for us to point to Tomlin because we actually see his poor product and decisions so often right in front of our mugs on TV while we’re drinking beer.

We can also point towards A LOT of 1st round draft strike outs that also re-direct towards the other two heads of this beast.

Bad press should have a few targets above the coordinators.

    100% irrelevant.

he produced a good unit that largely carried this team for a few years. We gonna fire that guy over Canada? Tomlin already fired 2’coordinators this crap.

Fire everyone and hire a serious staff. Nobody would hire any of our coordinators of the last few years. Fichtner and Butler are Tomlin lackeys from Ark St. Canada is probably the only guy they could find to work with Ben.

Canada is Tomlin’s hire. He’s a college coordinator and not a very good one. Nice reach but Tomlin owns this team. He has no one to blame but him self. Tomlin has already run off 2 good coaches… not to mention our Oline coach. So 3 good coaches… and the replacements are Tomlin’s.

this is total bs. The Rooney’s have never been meddling owners. They havr always let the front office run the show and they have always used a “team” model when making important decisions. They would not have been fired if Tomlin didn’t want it so.
