Different game situation, but you have a point.

His onside kick kept them in it despite NOD. Also in my opinion he used less trick plays in that game than most of the games that season. I seriously doubt you people really believe Tomlin is a better coach than Cowher.

The next time the Steelers want to try a trick play on special teams, let this guy throw a pass.

No, kickers kick and punters punt.we can’t expect them to do other things as that’s a specialty and they re two entirely different actions. As stated before the roster spots are just too valuable to carry more than one.

my point was though, we should have a plan B whereas a player in the team can become the backup kicker, just in case. For instance, I think I heard Derek Watt kicked and kicked well back in the day. Well, then it would make sense that he do a few kicks here and there in practice as a just in case of an emergency situation. In fact , I thought this was just common practice. Apparently it is because Tomlin said they do have that backup (Sutton?) I believe he just didn’t want to go there.

Same goes for QB. You can always find someone on the team that was a kicker or QB, or holder, or snapper back in college, and if not then in high school, if not there then as a kid. There’s always someone that has done it so you then designate them “ that guy” in an emergency. They know it and it’s kind of a joke but they know I’m the 5th in line whatever if required.
Not optimal but it’s a plan.

I much rather fake a punt anyways. It doesn't take points of the board.
Though 2 be Honest I rather Just Punt. LoL

I had forgotten about the fake field goal (successful trick play) in the 2018 Broncos game.

The team still lost (4 turnovers will do that), but the final result was a one score difference (7 points), instead of two (11 down if they kicked the FG).

I loved the call because no one expected it, except maybe Cleveland. My question about this call is how prepared were the players to execute it? Obviously Boz wasn't coached well enough on what to do with the ball and for how long. This looked to me like someone drew it up on a napkin before they went on the field. I don't know what they did to prep for it but it looked unrehearsed or somehow Cleveland figured it out before hand.

It looked bad because the Browns played it perfectly. Tomlin apparently said something about a delay before the snap giving the Browns too much time to figure out what the Steelers were doing.

I think it was Dale Lolley who reported that the Steelers had been practicing that fake all season.

Also, notice the Denver defender didn’t deliver a dirty hit on Bos when he could have.

But in a game winning situation or late in the game, it's not really a surprise play. The defense would absolutely be expecting it in that situation. Doing it in a 3-3 game, just before halftime, is not expected

I hear You. I just don't like it. Nothing against Tomlin. It's against all Coaches with the fake field goal, Fake Punts, and going for it on 4th down all the time. I just don't like that stuff. JMO
