you could be very correct on this. Not to mention the NFL gig is a rough grind just from what I’ve read.

Tomlin would absolutely be a good recruiter. That is the most important part of being a college head coach. And if your good at that and don’t screw up you own the town your in. The same is not true of a NFL head coach.

Still left the NFL to coach college. Make a ton of money and don’t have to deal with big ego athletes with big contracts.

Get into the right college town and they treat you like a God.

Agreed. Though LSU is not one of them.

Tomlin would have tremendous recruiting abilities if were to go. That said, Tomlin is not going anywhere. The Rooney's have made it very much clear at this point; unless Tomlin bottoms out to an unimaginable degree, Tomlin will leave on his terms.

Wouldn't MT hold out for an opening at William (Peter - Paul) & Mary? :hmm:

That’s the whole point, would Tomlin be drawn to a fresh start and in the college ranks when Ben and Colbert are gone. 15 years in one place, that has to be getting stale.

LOL... You go 8-8 or 5-5 at LSU, you are fired the next day. Hell at LSU you start the year off at 1-3 you could see a pink slip on your desk Monday morning.

There is something about Job Stability with the Steelers.

That's what I was saying. They don't care at LSU if you won a National Championship or not. Two years with 3 , or more losses....Bye, Bye

I seriously doubt he would at present. While I imagine that football is in Tomlin's DNA, there is a limit to how much even he would want to continue; collegiate ranks or otherwise. Personally, I say he hangs his headset up the moment he leaves.

Did he? He was a couple years removed from taking his team to a SB.

The Redskins ended up with a Tomlin-type coach in Rivera. And it was needed to clean up that holy mess of a cesspool.

You made me think of Tom Landry.

Someone made note that he had the same job for 25 years. He said “That’s one way to think about it. The other is I haven’t had a promotion in 25 years.”

He is stale. And stalled. The winning seasons will cement his legacy as well as winning a Lombardi and taking them to another SB. Ben going and a rebuild is underway.

He's an above average coach, not great. Just my opinion.

Like said he has it made in Pittsburgh. I see if a move to the college ranks, the work load would increase. But i'm sure the pay day would as well. Would Art II let him out of his contract?

Although, Tomlin would probably command a $8MM 5 year guaranteed salary. I think we might both agree that getting fired from that would be ok?

I was speaking more to the point that I could see Tomlin going on to coach college, doesn’t have to be LSU.

I don't see Tomlin being a capable college football coach. Recruiting talent is one thing and he'd probably do well at that. But being able to coach up the recruits doesn't seem like a strength for him. Tomlin coached teams too often don't perform to their potential.

^^^^^ This...Tomlin can pretty much talk, and Bull**** people but can't actually " Coach "...

The " Coaching" part, of being a Coach is Tomlins weakest " Strong point " ...And kinda what a Major D1 Powerhouse would want...

    The " Coaching " part!
