Too old to help long term, and this season is likely lost anyway.

He'll get snapped up by a contender if he can still play, though.

Imagine seeing Joe Haden, Gilmore and fitzpatrick all together. If the front 7 gets healthy. Hmmmmm. I know all seems lost but I do like to watch great defense.

Yeah if they had known this was coming I doubt they’d have signed Sherman

Gilmore is not much younger than Haden. Great player but not a long term option for the Steelers or for any team really.

100% ,one less thing to stress on the defensive side is a win in my book ! It would also mean one more guy Ben would have to apologize to for going 3 and out for the 6th time in a row but o'well.

    And
And one more guy Ben can't throw an interception to. But players like Smith and Gilmore will be looking for teams that have a QB and a chance to win.

He is looking for a long term contract wants to be paid and probably wants to play for a contender. He is also 31 years old.

Love him or hate him Bill Belicheck is pretty good for the most part on knowing when to move on from aging players that want to be paid.

We are not a player away from making any noise in this league. I know its tough to watch and sucks to know this season is lost but its the truth. We may the ultimate sin and sold out for a few years to try and win a championship refusing to realize that the man we were selling out for is a few years past his prime. This team is in need of rebuilding not retooling. The Line needs help, the secondary needs help the D line needs help
Haden is 32 and Gilmore is 31 (bad ages for DB's and Receivers as speed and agility is the first thing to go with age).

He’s not going to get paid this year, 4 games into the season, he’ll take a one year contract like so many others have.

Once he is here, anything it possible. Like you said, he’s 31 going on 32 by next season. Cap going way up. Never know.

We might have had a chance if we weren't obviously going nowhere this year or the next few years. He's 31. Not exactly a young buck with time to go through a rebuild

That's a strange series of events. First being released and then being traded for a 6th. Why wouldn't Carolina just wait

Agree. Maybe someone else was on the prowl for him and they sweetened the pot. You never know what kind of shady crap the patsies are up to.

Teams do this all the time, state they are going to cut a player but quietly hope somebody comes in with a trade offer before the paperwork goes through. Carolina traded for him because if they didn’t there is no guarantee they get him in free agency and there was always a risk somebody else trades for him. Another team may even have made an offer, who knows.

Steelers tried this with Nelson you may remember, giving him permission to seek a trade but telegraphing they were going to cut him

He grew up there and went to college there, this moves makes sense for Carolina, they have a few good young corners that can learn a lot from Gilmore and all they gave up was a late round pick anyway.

I wouldn't put it past them to claiming tampering if Carolina contacted his agent.

A 6th rounder in 2023. That ain’t much. I guess Carolina picks up his contract. And he’s still recovering from a injury. If he can play, Carolina got a bargain. But depending on when he’s ready, they’re taking some risk.
