If it's Bradshaw to Ben time, I doubt I'll be around. I need something like a Neil O'Donnell to come along. Probably our 3rd best in SB era.

Who scouts our future QB? That person better hit it out of the park in 2022

I hope management reads this thread and realizes Steeler fans have no faith in Mason. I'm under the assumption that he is our starting QB next season

It should have taken one year - this one. They needed to get rid of Ben, Ebron, Tuitt and Haden this offseason and eaten any money from that. They would've had this entire season to evaluate Mason, Haskins, and any other QB they grabbed. They could have taken that very young offense and given it 17 games to really learn Canada's system. That would have left them a lot of FA money and a high 1st round pick (which we'll get any way). They also could have spent this entire year really giving consideration for the next head coach. Go into 22 with a new staff, an easier schedule and a good, young team. Of course, none of this happened because Art is stupid.

I think it does because we draft players based on our base defense. I remember oh we can't get Aaron Donald because he's a 4-3 and not a 3-4 d-lineman blah blah. Then we focus on corners that are good in zone coverage and that's why I don't think we haven't been able to develop a decent one in forever.

Yes, now we're in Nickel defense most the time. Butler said before the season they're going to do Nickel instead of Dime. They need to be in Dime in obvious passing downs and against these teams going 4-5 wide all game. I'm already tired of seeing Schobert get abused and it's only 4 games in.

Just needs a specific type of NT = Alualu and an elite LB. Good safety also helps. Once you lose a NT that can fill 2 gaps and anchor the o-line, stopping the run becomes nearly impossible. Once the run defense becomes a problem you have to bring up a safety and then the secondary collapses. So as you see it all is built off the NT imo. Then obviously 1 or 2 good pass rushers can do their thing . With Watt and Alualu we have one of the best defenses in the league. Without them we are in the bottom third. Which means our depth is an issue.

ALL those things make absolute sense. The real question is does Tomlin buy into his own false hype or does he realize He's is not a good coach and most likely wont get away with his sit back and give you a politician's speech on why he's failed to do nothing again and again.

CB will be a huge need, too. Haden is gonzo. WR, too - JuJu and DWash both likely gone.

You could argue that if they go FA for QB, WR or CB is the top priority. Need a stud at both positions.

We will not be a Superbowl contender again until Big Ben, MT and the entire coaching staff is replaced. We could be competitive but in no way will they be a serious SB contender. Probably looking at 4 years minimum for those 3 things to happen. The only way to turn this completely around is to finally blow it all up and start anew.

Yep... it will be this way until mid to late 2020's. We may get a year like '89 or '02 sprinkled in (two and done)... but no real threat for a Super Bowl berth.

Tomlin has proven he's not a playoff contender. He's a regular season pretender.

Speaking of rebuilding the trade deadline is Nov 2, after the 7th game. If the Steelers are languishing at 1-6 or 2-5, I'd pull a Belichick and try to get value for Haden, Heyward, even a stiff like Ebron. Anyone who isn't here for the next run.

I really want to clean house. Things are old and stale.
I just hope Tomlin doesn`t become the next GM .
Maybe scoop up Leftwich as the next HC.

I am not convinced we can do that well with the ARII running the show as well.

How long for rebuild to last:

one year for Ben to leave

two/three years for Tomlin and remaining staff to leave or get fired

one year for new coach to get acclimated with team and new QB

4 to 5 years for the rebuild and back to contention if all goes right, longer if new coach or new QB doesn't work out

Cutting those players would've affected their salary cap, so that was never going to happen when the cap was reduced by 16 million in 2021.

They need a fast WR like Mike Wallace, those guys can be found in the mid rounds.

I didn't say cut but, fair enough, I don't remember the exact cap workings for those guys. At the very least, Ben should NEVER have been retained and I think Ebron and Haden could have been traded or removed in some way. Point is, they did half a house cleaning and failed bigly.

I think expecting to fix the QB situation in one year is a little unreasonable. If they have a good pick (which seems really likely) and there are no franchise QBs in the draft (which doesn’t appear there wil be), I don’t think you gamble. I think you draft an Olineman or another need. Play Rudolph or Haskins next year. Then go from there.
