What the heck are our position coaches doing?

Our O-line is terrible, Our receivers can't run routes or get open. Special teams don't catch the ball. All of these folks have dedicated coaches for their position. And then there are trainers - what's up with groin injuries and what looks like Claypool having cramps? I think some serious upgrades are needed in lots of areas, not just some players.

    :hmm:

Umm.... the positional coaching is part of the problem but not all of it. Regarding Ike Hillard, Receivers are not consistent enough. However, not all of it is on them. As for Adrian Klemm, new unit equates to growing pains; a topic brought up many times already. Danny Smith has actually done far better this season than even I thought he would after a poor 2020 conclusion.

Garrett Giemont has been the Strength and Conditioning Coach since 2007. These recent string of injuries are relative to all teams; bad luck or wrong place within the wrong time. Only so much that Giemont can do there.

In short, as cliche as this will be, plenty of blame to share around for all here. Does not matter who it is. However, there is a major issue that needs to be resolved before correcting the other problems first.

Honestly I feel like under Cowher and Dan Rooney, the supporting staff was more upper tier than what Tomlin has. And maybe that's on Tomlin for not taking it seriously enough when bringing in new people. Or maybe it is a $$$ thing. For example there are stories that the Miami Dolphins wanted Canada not as an OC, but rather as a running game specialist/coordinator. And they aren't even a successful team.

Different teams have different philosophies for different personnel. It is all subjective based on that teams objectives on how they want to build their own team. If anything, what Miami wanted Canada for is what Pittsburgh needed him for.

That said, Canada had proven to be more than a mere running game specialist at that point. Bringing Canada up as a QB Coach was a very good way to immerse him within the NFL World of Terminology; much different from his days in college. Letting him have that year to study was paramount as promoting him to OC was needed to assist this offense.

Again, the end results have not tuned out as well as many would have hoped. That said, too early to write him off as this offense is clearly going through growing pains. The aspect is these growing pains are more painful due to a major issue that is causing them.
