How did that guaranteed money work out for Bell with the Jets?

He got 30 million if I'm not mistaken. Pitt wasn't giving him that

And the saints gave Taylor Hill a 140 million dollar contract. Nfl deals are irrelevant outside of guaranteed money unless you play qb

And he would've got over 40 million in the first 3 years if he signed with the Steelers.

I'm not saying I like the process but that's the risk you take in this league. For the Jets it didn't work out. Maybe if the Steelers gave more guaranteed he would have played amazing, maybe he would have sucked? I can't say and neither can you. But in hindsight I'm glad they didn't. But Watt is a better character guy, so I would say less risk dishing out the money.

If the Steelers didn’t offer guarantee money past the first year, they win again and will continue to do things their way.

Guarantee money or not, Watt will be the highest paid player in the league, that is not spin it’s fact.

It is fact you're right, highest paid defensive player that is. But my point is if the yearly salary is lower but you're getting a ton in guaranteed, they won't even care whose highest paid cause your take home is even more.

But I gotta wonder what their big thing is about not giving money after the first year. The Rooney's are very risk adverse so my guess is they can't predict what next year's books will look like so it's no way. No question it's bad business too.

If we do it won't be because we paid TJ what he is worth.

I like TJ as much as the next Steelers fan but this is not smart business. Why lock a guy up to that insane contract without a franchise QB starting next year and 0 championship window. By the time we might be good again TJ will be an afterthought or more likely hurt and out of football. If we thought we could be competitive with Ben this year let him play out his 5th year which he would have done. Then during the rebuild we could shore up the OLine and other areas while we hopefully get a franchise QB in the draft. I said it once I’ll say it again you are not winning **** with a Mason Rudolph because you have TJ Watt.

Adam Schefter reported it. I really wish people would credit the actual sources, not the aggregation site that reposted it. The Tweet was right there in the article.

If they get a franchise quarterback in the draft, they can easily afford Watt's contract because they will have the QB on a rookie deal. What they are doing is building the team they will have around the long-term quarterback. They also can't just throw up their hands and stop trying while they search for the next QB. They are still going to have cap room to add more help next season.

If he stayed productive then he would've lasted that long.
