I can see both sides of this argument. You and I come from a time when team loyalty was important but, I've seen what loyalty did to guys like Walt Sweeney (look him up, kids) TJ wants to get as much as he can while he can. So do I. So does everyone. What happens if TJ gets a Shazier-like injury this year? I'm not advocating giving him a blank check but, give him a fair contract. TJ's agent should accept a FAIR deal too.

wouldn’t he be a FA next year if they don’t extend him?

I made reference to the Shazier injury, how often does that happen? Can’t think of anyone else in the last 20 years with a catastrophic injury like that.

Steelers I bet make Watt the highest paid LB, that seems pretty fair to me. The guarantee wont be as high but like I said, those type of injuries are rare.

I see what your saying i think. Qbs on their rookie deal must be at least a middling qb was my thought process. Seen a lot of busts over the years,

It’s all about the guarantees. Just like taysom hill has a 140 million dollar contract but he won’t see even half of that because they will void it after this year because it isn’t guaranteed. You can’t bank on money that’s not secure especially with the way these teams cut guys.

that’s the thing. If he were to hold out I doubt they franchise him.

Once is all it takes. Not a likely scenario but........it doesn't even have to be that severe. I say pay him , but don't mortgage the future to do it.

I think hats why Leveon did what he did. When a guy shows you he'd holdout for a year you can't hold up that large a number of your cap for a guy who refuses to play. It severely hampers your team.

that same injury could happen to any player. should they all not play until they are the highest paid? they would never play a game. TJ is at the top of his game as a pass rusher but he still has some parts of his game to work on. 53 tackles was his lowest output and that was last year. lev bell didn't take a 14.5 million dollar offer from the steelers and played for less elsewhere. that will teach the steelers right? sorry, it didn't phase them. a few short years later he is on a PS, and only playing because a team is desperate. oh how a player can decline quickly. tj's brother is a good example. houston got stuck with very little output for a huge price. they haven't recovered yet. think about that. pass rushers come along all the time. he's not going to be the last one to do it. he's hot right now, but you don't kill the rest of a team in rebuild on one player unless he's a franchise qb.

You know very well that Watt would see the bulk of that contract, they’d tie him up for his career with the highest paid contract.

Can’t compare Hill to Watt. All these fans complain about the Steelers and guarantees but amazingly, they manage to sign guys to long term contracts all the time that earn just about every penny of it.

For Justin Fields! Defense might win a SB again for Chicago. OSU is overdue with a franchise qb.

I mean but how many big name free agent shave they gotten? The guys they keep typically aren't what you'd call top guys who break the bank as of late in terms of guaranteed money.
