I'm only a fan of T.J because he plays for the Steelers. T.J.'s antics are hurting the team.

In most of the world not related to the NFL business isn't done like that. If you walk into a custom car shop and throw 2.5 million down on the counter and say I want that BMW you have on display tripped out and blinged up in three weeks and then leave, you are kinda hoping that the shop owner is an honest person because if you get the money up front there is no gun to your head saying you have to provide a product equal to the amount he paid. You got the cash so let them sue or say you ripped him off end of the day you got the money.

Same thing in the NFL if players want pay upfront for future performances the balance is going to be teams setting up accounts for theses players where the money is withdrawn if the output doesn't meet standards.

Not to say you right or wrong in your alimony or child support theory some of those things are influenced by the judge and completely takes it out of the two opposing parties hands. Had a judge tell my wife and her exhusband that a grave injustice had been done since I made over 20 dollars and hour and the wife made over 30 at the time that having her ex's child support set so high was totally unfair due to our income and cost of living and then proceeded to wipe out his rears and lower the monthly payment on his child support which he had trouble paying for almost five years. The system sometimes bites good people in the butt

My whole point that you continually refuse to address since we started this exchange is that there could be an issue beyond simply not wanting to offer guarantees. I just wonder if fronting that kind of money right now is putting them under serious financial strain.

I think we are both agreed that they will have to change how they do contracts or they are going to have disgruntled star players, possibly even losing some.

Re Joe and Cam they were on the back nine signing those deals and were never getting market setting money but they did get more guarantees than the Steelers usually give, particularly Joe Haden.

are they though? outside of doing team drills he has been radio silent since reporting for camp. He hasn't been disruptive or even sleeping in meetings. I seriously think if Thursday is deadline day for a signing that he is ready to go no matter what. This is being handled a lot better than Bell and head and shoulders above AB's nuclear melt down

Would TJ get his guaranteed money from other franchises? Yes he would. Steelers are shooting themselves in the foot over guaranteed money that TJ has already earned imo.

The cap % argument is what I'm not understanding. There are only so many guys that deserve a high cap % & they all don't play qb.
Terry & Ben needed a stud linebacking corps.

Not that it guarantees anything but the Steelers could remove that stupid and completely arbitrary "we don't negotiate contacts during the regular season" tradition instead of handcuffing themselves to a self made deadline.

They don’t have to live those lifestyles, I’m suppose to feel for guys that want to live excessive lifestyles? A lifestyle that 10 million can’t provide? And in AB’s case, what did he make already up to that point? 40 million? I mean come on, we are talking about ridiculous sums of money.

I don’t begrudge billionaires or millionaires but also don’t pity either of them. From a strictly business standpoint, guarantee contracts are a bad idea.

Whatever the Steelers are offering TJ, I’m sure he will see most of it and it will be a lot. I’m not going to feel bad for him if the guarantee doesn’t compare to what other teams dole out. TJ will live just fine on what he gets, he’s about to be the highest paid at his position.

Depends on how much he and/or his Agent is demanding. Yep. Some organizations out there throw money around like it's Halloween candy and never even sniff a Championship. Anything > 50 mil guaranteed completely rolling the dice. Actually any guaranteed money is rolling the dice for that matter.

It wouldn't surprise me if they just tag him next season at this point. I figured a deal would have been done several weeks ago. Crazy as it sounds, I guess a $100,000,000 just to play a game is not enough for these players anymore. Going to a game in the near future with a few of your family members, prepare for at least 2 weeks salary for about 3 hours of entertainment.

No argument here but he's GREAT in the Steeler system. 20 sacks/year is obtainable.

    Edit: ELITE

Aditi on 93.7 now. Sounds like it's getting personal. Steelers playing the "People should be honored to play for this team" card, apparently don't like the idea of a Steeler being the highest paid defender in the league.

    Minkah's watching.

I meant that for both statements in my post regarding SDs breakdown.

Who knows if this is true but I wouldn't doubt it. This franchise needs to get over itself with this looking down on "lesser" franchises. With the franchise QB position soon to be vacated, players aren't gonna be jumping to come here because of traditions.

It's not gonna happen, just bag it at this point. Start looking for trade partners and don't do the same crap you did with Le'Veon.
