Yeah they get €250m a year from the league but it costs more than that to run the team and all of the very extensive operations. The profit is in local revenue which was basically wiped out last season. The owners agreed to prop up the salary cap artificially this year. It’s won’t be a problem for most of the owners but there are a couple that will have a lot of bean counting to do to balance everything up.

If TJ wants $80m - $100m guaranteed at signing they have to have that to hand when he signs. I very much doubt they have that kind of cash lying around right now so then you are adding the cost of borrowing that against future earnings etc.

I’m not saying they can’t afford to sign him but there is a lot more to it than just agreeing the numbers and I think it’s a factor in the whole thing. If not, then what the hell is taking so long? Letting it run in to game week is madness, they’ve had since January to work it out.

Don't have 2 do research. He did nothing that wasn't covered immensely. On NFL network.

Do players retire when the team was counting on their services?

Hope it’s not the guarantee money holding it up. You’d think Watt paid attention to the Bell situation.

This will end badly if thats what this is about. Steelers will not allow players to dictate how they operate.

I think it's definitely guaranteed money holding things up.
Bell had his injury history and 2 suspensions working against him, Watt has been flawless in that regard.

Not entirely money that is fully guaranteed everyone. How much money he will receive after the first year is what is the hold up. More info is below:

Not how much “money” after year 1, how much “guaranteed money” after year 1. Many star contracts out there have fully or partially guaranteed salaries after year 1. The Steelers generally don’t make those kinds of dead money loaded guarantees up front.

And man I don’t blame them for their take. They have had some pretty stellar inkings over the years that blew up in their faces (nature of the beast for sure) but real nonetheless.

I am shocked at the watt issue currently going on but only from a hopium aspect as he appears game and not hold outish with 10 large to keep the cupboard full. Really figured he’d have been participating and let the chips fall accordingly. Doesn’t appear to be the case.

When I said that, I was referring to fully guaranteed money as whole given the fact I had already stated such earlier.

If that's the case I'm with the Steelers on this, I wouldn't give him 80-100 million guaranteed, that type of money should only go to franchise QBs IMO.

honestly it shouldn’t even go there... I remember when Troy aim an go his 50 mil for being an NFL QB, saying, well things are gonna get out of control then. But all sports are on the big stage. It’s just the hunger/desire to earn or what not regardless of fairness between owners and players (shocker... that’s the same dance we all in the real world play)

i know it’s what an I-t-I-s scenario these days in more than just sports as far as real logic comprehension goes I gues... old days are gone. Excuses for or against certain scenarios win out. Politics aside but inclusive that is... SOFT HAHAHAHAHAHA

That type of money should go to no one, no matter the job. The money being thrown around in sports is straight up disgusting. I have been watching the Steelers for over 50 years, so not watching , while tempting, is not a real option. Although it does cross my mind.

Sure, if you play most of your football in New Orleans. But last time I checked you lived in Arizona.

+1 for that vernacular. Had to refer to the Urban Dictionary for its meaning. My urban isn't as strong as jeh's.

    :roflmao:

The TJ Watt situation is making most of us uneasy. It seems to be heading in the wrong direction. I feel if the contract doesn't get done he will play under the 5th year option. But at this point it seems the Buffalo game he will be out. Unfortunate to say the least.

If Watt doesn't play because of this, I say trade him for 2 1sts...And I'm serious...Bye!

3 1sts next year...Go and get your next Franchise QB!
