Spillane is what he is.... An old school downhill lber.... If the play isn't in front of him, then he's not making the play

Knows the defense, makes all the calls, good run support, not a great coverage guy yet DC continues to have him cover WRs…..
Still better than Gilbert or Allen

I was watching last night. I was thinking how on God's earth did this guy ever pick off Lamar Jackson and run it back for a touchdown?

Because I did see that happen once. Now it just seems like a pipe dream.

I think Allen has shown some improvement, I would keep him, Gilbert will probably get cut. Buddy Johnson has some potential.

I would keep both Allen and UG3 over Spillane... Honestly I was not a Buddy Johnson fan.. I know he sticks because of his draft investment, but he didn't show me much this preseaaon to change my mind.

I'm keeping 4 ILB on my final 53..Bush, backup Allen...Schobert, backed by Buddy

That way I can keep 5 at OLB. Watt,Highsmith,Ingram,Jones,Roche

UG3 and Marsh can go PS

    Hack

They really need to stop letting ILBers get singled up with the other team's best WR. I get that sometimes **** happens and you get a bad matchup but this has happened way too often. Regardless, Spillane is not good in coverage. Thankfully he is now relegated to being a backup, where he provides ok depth, or at least as good as we have right now.

I agree, marsh does provide sp team play, but if Watt, Highsmith, and Ingram stay healthy you have most of the snaps covered. You have to keep and develop Roche..has shown enough talent and upside for that investment. Jones in interesting enough to keep over Marsh.

If they have to use Spillane for a significant amount of snaps this year, the Steelers defense is in trouble. I like Spillane, he's a hard worker and an everyday, blue collar kind of football player. If teams ran more like they used to, he'd have the chance to compete as a starter. But, he simply is not even quick enough to cover backs let alone WR's.

Problem is ...he really was getting beat by Rbs, and TE also in this game.
Also one of those TDs 2 the WR was Zone, and that is were the TD occurred. In His Zone. People have 2 understand if He's dropped into Zone he can't just evacuate that spot because the WR comes there

Oh, I was not trying to defend Spillane's coverage "ability." It sucks.

Jones has flashed more on special teams than Marsh this preseason. He has been the better player on defense. I just hope they don't keep Marsh over Roche.

    Ditto.

Spillane in coverage is about as effective as any QB on the roster not named Ben.

Spillane playing better than most the other ilbs is upsetting. Let's see someone earn that backup role from him.

He is playing himself out of an NFL career, why don’t these guys practice on their weaknesses?

Sadly, I believe he does. You can only improve so much on what God gave you to work with. That's why I say at this point, Robert Spillane is as good as he's ever going to be. He's a back-up that I hope only gets spot duty.

Usually reserved for Artie the award went to Spillane last night. I had hopes for Spillane but just like Artie he can't cover a grill.

But somewhat in his defense Awe Shucks keeps putting him on receivers.

    Thank goodness they got Schobert.

Limited athlete, slow, there really is not much to work on..he is what he is. As slow as he is, I wonder if that injury last year hampered him further.
