Has Jamaal Adams pushed Minkah out of our price range???

While the F.O. is busy working out a mega deal for TJ Watt, Jamaal Adams just reset the market for safeties... I'm sure Minkah will want close to, or even more than the $70 mil that Adams got.... Can it be done.. can both watt's and Minkah's salaries coexist, or did Jamaal Adams just doom our secondary

Without a doubt it will be. The Watt deal is imminent and will happen sooner than later. Minkah's contract will be dealt with next season as that will be the appropriate time to do so.

How much Minkah will command at that point will largely have to do with his 2021 Season. Should he cap off another First Team All Pro season.... he will be not just the highest paid safety in Football but one of the highest paid defenders as well. If he cannot.... highest paid Safety.

They knew he was going to be at the top of the market a few million more shouldn't be an issue. But I think the big cap space available next year is a mirage. I doubt that they change their ways and sign a big time free agent. Better to give bigger money to TJ and Minkah now and avoid huge cap hits in later years.

As I have stated in previous threads TJ and Minka are huge
contracts up for Steelers, Now you eliminate Ben's 30 mill a year
we can compete with QB's teams on their rookie contract to sign these type of players.

Kind of makes you wish they weren't sacrificing so much of next year's cap to fill the tank just enough to get 75% up the mountain one more time.

Supposedly the Steelers will have close to 63 mill cap space next season projected.

    Pittsburgh Steelers
Year Total Liabilities Salary Cap (Projected)
    2021 $169,059,331 $186,658,555
    2022 $145,245,521 $208,200,000
    2023 $66,379,988 $225,000,000
    2024 $48,538,967 $256,000,000

Minkah is under contract with the 5th year option in 22. He will get a nice contract.

It is imperative to get Watt's deal done this season.

It's going to take a real economic collapse for this to happen. Even during the 07-09 banking collapse contracts for live sports skyrocketed. I sense that football will likely have a slow decline, much like baseball. Despite the fact there are less youth playing football than 20-30 years ago, it is still the highest participated sport for boys. The NFL has the highest revenue in any sports league, world wide, and that gap will likely get larger due to the new mega tv contract. Plus the NFL is ahead of other sports leagues in the digital platform world. So yea, a quick pop in the house of cards would need to happen from real world circumstances, and won't be from a rapid decline in viewership or attendance.

Does that count all the voidable years money that will escalate in 2022 for Ben, Ebron, JuJu, and Ingram? Those four count for $23M in 2022.

Ben will be off the books soon, so Minkah will be signed to a 2nd contract. Not even worried. Steelers should have got an OT in the first round. Harris likely will only play his rookie contract. A blue chip OT would have been a Steeler for life.

Look, if the societal de-evolution continues, it won't be long before the calls to eradicate toxic-masculinity take hold in professional football. They got ahold of the NFL already over "offensive" names. It's not even a stretch to think they won't come after the game itself soon.

Little boys aren't even being allowed to be "boys" anymore. Pissing on a tree to relieve yourself was a right of passage. Now you're going to offend the Arbor Day Foundation, the EPA, PETA (if it's a dogwood tree...and by the way, isn't calling a tree a "dogwood" either offensive to the animal or the tree?), the NAACP if it's a black maple, and a whole lot of feminists who will feel disenfranchised because they can't aim like we can.

And while I'm on the subject of it, it's pretty simple. Want to test gender? If you can take a leak and write your name in the snow, you're a dude. You have to compete with men. If you can't, you have to use the women's restroom and can't participate in men's athletics. Some guys with a weak stream can get an exemption and just write their initials.

Not really "politics" to be quite honest. You're painting with a pretty wide brush. But I did go out on a social commentary limb there. So for what it's worth, your disapproval is duely noted.

Definitely agree in principle, but if you look at how the draft fell they may have felt that there wasn’t an OT worth taking at 24, Darrisaw went just before they picked. If he was available they may have pulled the trigger.

The pick that really surprised me was Freirmuth in the second. Maybe he turns out great, but on the face of it it makes little sense from a team building perspective to take a TE there.

Maybe Dan Moore turns in to a solid LT. If he does, that would vindicate the Freirmuth pick to an extent I suppose.

Disagree, your post reeked of politics. There's plenty of venues on the internet for political discourse and argument.

I think what often gets forgotten when talking about Watt and Minkah getting paid is that Heyward and Tuitt are both at or near the top of the market in at their positions as well. While I’m sure they’ll figure it out they are going to have an awful lot of money invested in that side of the ball when you add it all up.

It's getting disgusting when does it end? Just an endless cycle of greed on all sides. And we pay for it through going to games or watching on TV.

As long as they don't do something stupid with Hayden's contract it should be pretty easy to sign Minka long-term next year.
