Journeyman OLB who played college ball at Indiana. Has bounced around on several teams’ practice squads and the XFL. Steelers had him on the PS in 2019 as well. Been waived more times than Queen Elizabeth’s white glove.

he was traded for. he is an inside linebacker and a very good one. we traded a 6th rd. draft pick for him. i put this on par with when we picked up james farrior and what he will mean for this team.

Don’t know if this has been said here yet but Jags are paying half Schobert’s salary.

This is a crazy deal, this guy, for a 6th rd pick and Jags paying half his salary? Hope nothing is wrong with him ala Green, that TE we signed that we all thought was a great move.

I love the signing, just hope it’s Colbert picking the Jags pocket and not something else.

    Edit: Mac scooped me.

That's the thing, his health/availability/ability. Is he as good as some are saying? If so, then has he just been the victim of circumstance? Hard for me to anoint the guy when he wasn't good enough elsewhere to make them keep him.

And don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the trade. But Ingram was a stud who came cheap because of injury. Why is Schobert coming cheap? There has to be a reason other than his former employer was paying him too much. And what would that say about him? He was let go because he wasn't worth his contract, so much so that they would pay half of it just to get rid of him.

Here's to us getting the better end of this transaction. :drinks:

New coach wants his guys, this kind of thing happens. I think this plays out like the Haden signing, only we can get a couple more years out of Schobert. He's only 27.

Yes, it sure seems a low price to pay for someone of his pedigree, but it was a big contract and there was a regime change. It’s like when a new silverback takes over a group of gorillas and kills all the previous leader’s offspring. If there was some hidden jagoffery or injury in his background it surely would have come out by now, I am sure a number of sports reporters have dug for info.
I think it was a case where he was not going to help Jacksonville significantly this year, but could make a big difference to the Steelers.

Also Steelers convert $2.36 million into signing bonus. Total cap hit (after roster displacement) $1.2 million for this year.

Can't the Steelers nix the deal if this guy fails a physical?

Read some of a Jagoffs MB about the trade. The general concensus seems to be that although Schobert is a decent player, he was over paid and this trade was a salary dump. Some Jags fans questioned why they'd need to dump salary on a team that had plenty of space. It seemed as if Schobert was headed to the bench as a back up for Myles Jack and Damien Wilson and the move was for optics, meaning they weren't going to pay the 4th highest salaried Jaguar to ride the oak. Most members felt that they could have gotten a better return and, that it was not a smart move because there isn't much depth behind Jack and Wilson. Well, join the club. Every other team in the league can say that about multiple positions. That's a function of the salary cap. Anyway, many felt that Wilson was much better against the run than Schobert however, Schobert was better against the pass. But to be clear, no one said the guy is a bum, just over paid.

So, we'll see. They get him for little in exchange and at a good price this season. He can't help but be an upgrade over Spillane, and they may need to lean on him a great deal if Bush has post injury troubles that hinder his continued development.

Trust me, I HOPE I'm wrong! If we need to get where we want to get, I believe Bush HAS to be a big part of it!

I put alot into the " eye test " always have...I watch the games closely and base them on MY opinions. I'm far from a professional scout, But from what I SEE, Bush doesn't have IT!

He's still young, and I hope he gets IT, But for what he's cost, and how long he's played, and his supposed pedigree.. I thought he'd be ALOT farther advanced...We shall see

From what I read on a Jags board, he was going to be difficult to trade with his salary, so the Jags took what they could get. If he turns out to be even half the player Potsy was, I'll be happy with him.

Guess that whole cutting into TJ's money thing is no longer relevant .

All that is needed at this point is the annual waste of a roster spot thread and football is officially back.

That would be the reason, Steelers ILBs are getting shredded with the passing game this preseason.

And the Jags are paying salary...Only cost us 2 million, and we can cut him after this season and owe him nothing! Why would the Jags do that ? He's a good player!

I believe because of a new coach. You know how sometimes New Coaches are. We see it all the time. They come in automatically want thing done their way . People get traded. For example. Farrior, Haden, and Minkah. At least that what I think.:smiley1:

I've never been sold on Devon Bush, either. Now, we have an unproven player coming off of major knee surgery that might have lost some of what they drafted him for in the first place: speed. On top of that, judging by some of his Twitter posts, he seems at the very least to be a bit flaky. I firmly believe this is a make or break year for Bush as a Steeler.

Yep, he is a solid pro. There were a lot of Jags fans that were unhappy with the move. On paper, right here and right now, the trade is a no brainer for the Steelers.

Stacking picks for next year possibly. They could & should have got more for him imo.

In his third training camp Bush gets demoted. That stings after spending three draft picks on the guy.

Yep, there were Jags fans that felt as though he was worth a mid rounder and others saying a low rounder plus a player. Many of them thought the trade return, before it was announced what Pittsburgh was giving, was that it was going to be Schobert for Ebron or Washington.

I remember reading the Browns Board when they let him go because he wanted too much in FA. The fans wanted him signed for the most part.

Adding Joe to our LB core for a 6th rounder? I'm awake right?

Stole Minkah from 1st year coach
    Haden, rookie coach.
    Schobert, yup rookie coach.

    Umm, seeing a trend here?
