I had completely forgotten about Earl Gros. He was the Steelers FB in the late 1960's. That is what is so great about this countdown. What a great trip down memory lane for all of us, especially the old-timers.

Followed by Craig Breedlove's Spirit of America and Gary Gabelich's Blue Flame. Check out the movie with Anthony Hopkins called "Indian" or "The Indian" which is about an older Aussie dude who wanted to set the land speed record at Bonneville with his beefed up classic Indian motorcycle. True story as I recall.

You guys are taking this thread all over the place, which is pretty cool. But somebody was sleeping at the wheel. There should have been Super 40 and 43 pictures. Somebody needs to be fired!

    That was a Triumph Scrambler.

EDIT: oops, it was a Triumph but not the Scrambler. I was confused by the special edition.

My family called him the same thing. When he would make a play the female members would say "Carmell is so sweet and chewy".

Just dawned on me you may have hit the M by mistake. Anyway he was called caramel among the females of our group.

BUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man do I miss that guy!!!! He was a hell of a lot of fun. To me he was sort of a throwback to the 70 Steelers.

    I didnt even notice. :lolol:

Either my phone auto corrected me, or it was a case of fat fingers.

Lake is one of my favorite all time players. I remember one time a buddy of mine and myself had a few hour long discussion about who was the better safety. He or Troy. It wasn't a debate. We were honestly trying to figure it out. Your first instinct is to say Troy. But when you think about, Carnell Lake was so freaking good. It's really close. Lake will never make the Hall of Fame. But he should probably get more consideration than he does.

I know Brian Urlacher will never forget him. The Bus took him on a 7 yard ride into the endzone.

JHJ one of my first Steeler hero's. I was pretty much all Pirates as a youngster as were most the neighborhood kids but JHJ started getting talked about and the Steelers became relevant to us.

5 days till Steeler Prediction Poll time!!

carnell was a good guy. loved him too. we had a group of us sitting at a table in an eat and park after a game and i had my black and gold brigade hat on at the time. he and his girl at the time got up and he walked over to the table and asked if i was from cali and i told him no but my friend was at the time the president of that club out there. he asked us how we enjoyed the game and ended up talking to us for about 20 minutes. my family was friends of dwight stone and we met carnell through him also and he remembered us. it got to be a pretty good friendship over the years after the games. he was a super nice guy and very genuine.
