Great career for a sixth round pick. I loved Vince, hope he enjoys his retirement

I just saw a brief article on this. I wonder if the team had an idea this was coming… Seems a bit surprising to me, after they brought him back.

Anyway, as you said, hope he enjoys retirement.

What in the name of Sam Hill is going on ? Lingering injury or concussion issues.

Playing for the minimum after eight seasons of wear and tear on the body playing linebacker can’t have been appealing

ILB just became the biggest position of need. They can't go into the season expecting Spillane to be the guy for 17 games.

On the eve of camp, have to wonder if it was payback for letting him go earlier in the offseason?

True and sometimes you don't get to write your own ending to your story but that had to be a real shocker to the team.

My guess, he was probably pondering retirement anyway, he showed up at camp, realised he was a step slower and his body wasn’t up to it, weighed everything up with his salary etc and decided to call it a career.

Can’t say I blame him, if he was smart with his money he should be well set up, why put your body through another year of a brutal slog at ILB for league minimum

    But...but...but...wait...what???

Vinny, say it ain't so. This sucks. Hopefully, his take on Spillane is accurate.

Looking at the free agent list there isn't anything exciting on it. Do we bring back Avery Williams, or wait for a late training camp cut?

Williamson is an obvious replacement if the money is right

How does that work cap wise? Can we take the money we were gonna pay him, and use it towards Williamson? Maybe a little less

One of the things I liked about Spillane two years ago was that during the preseason he was always right with the TE's he was supposed to be covering. He wasn’t getting his head around to track the ball before the pass was caught but he was close more so than any of the rest of the ILB depth. I think the motor is there, the desire just need to have the refinement to his game.

Great athlete for us but over the last couple seasons they were asking him to do the impossible in coverage. Enjoy your retirement Vince.

His gut feeling told him that he could cover Gronk one on one. Tomlin needs some pepto bismol in a bad way.

Not really, Vince was signed for the minimum. They may just decide to go in to the season with Bush, Spillane, Gilbert and Johnson, trade for somebody if there is an injury.

Williamson will want at least $3m I would think, and it’d be a good spot for him

That Keenan Allen night game will forever haunt me. Who was the safety that popped out the int in the end zone?

Love the guy but he should've made this announcement instead of re-signing.

Sean Davis on Haden, possibly the most frustrating thing I have ever seen on a football field. Jesus f***ng Christ thinking back on it still makes me cringe
