Will DeShaun Watson even be playing? Move Ben down to 15.

My bias and knowledge of the NFL would rank Roethlisberger ahead of Ryan, Mayfield, Stafford, Tannehill, Carr, and Cousins, if he returns to his 2018 skillset. If he is what he was the last 6 games of 2020, I would rank him behind Drew Lock and Mason Rudolph. My hope he is revitalized, re-energized, and healthy enough to do the things he needs to do: get under center more, run more play action, and stand in the pocket longer (providing the line can give 3 seconds of blocking).

I can only think of 3 Qbs IMO 4 sure better than Ben right now. These 1 year wonder guys don't count. Half won't duplicate what they did.

Yep, there’s a huge gap between healthy Ben and hurting Ben. He wouldn’t even need to return to 2018 form. His early 2020 form was still good enough to be a Top 10-12 QB. His late 2020 form was really hard to watch. The reason that I am pessimistic about Ben is that he has arthritic knees, so we’re not just talking about an acute injury that will heal and he’ll be OK. The chances of him making it through an NFL season without his knees affecting his play are not great.

I was going to say a young Ben would be ranked a lot higher but then I see two old men near the top.

Actually I'm sure a Ben from 10 years ago would be higher and a healthy Ben would be higher.

No doubt in my mind that Ben won't play all 17 games. My hope is he only misses 3-4 games and if this happens we may still have a chance at playoffs. Those games Mason has to step in he could surprise us.

Saw on Twitter some hack quoting a team source stating that Ben has applied himself this offseason in terms of diet and conditioning better than ever before, is obsessed with getting in to peak shape. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but if he could get his weight down it would help the issue with his knees and increase his mobility. He looked heavy and slow at times last season quite frankly.

This is probably the single biggest thing he could do to help him get through the season. It seems astonishing to say this about one of the highest paid professional athletes in the world, but I don’t think he has ever given it that 100% effort like say Brady or Wilson. I really do wonder how much more he could have achieved if he had.

If #7 will follow OC instructions and the OC
game plan's correctly run 60% pass 40% ratio I believe
#7 will move back into the top ten. If not, he will probably throw his 30
int's and the Steelers will not be competing for a playoff spot.

Did it also say he was also really pissed at the way the season ended and that he had a chip in his shoulder? I hear the same stuff every yr. Best shape of his life, highly motivated. And half the time they miss the playoffs, the other half they lose in embarrassing fashion.

Yes, taken with a great deal of skepticism of course. My point does stand though, I believe he could get that weight down and it would help a lot. We’ll see

I agree but part of me is thinking he may need some of that weight to help handle the punishment that I know is coming his way.

He was pretty thin by his standards to start last year.

He was but he definitely put on weight towards the end of the season, possibly unable to do much conditioning work on those knees after the Dallas game?

I expect it to go much like last season. Down the stretch won’t be pretty, will they have the cahonas to bench him is the big question. Guess that will depend on what they feel they have with Rudolph and Haskins.

I think as long as Ben can trot out there, they will never bench him.

Ben is a tough QB to rank. When he is healthy, and his body is feeling good, I think Ben is among the league's best.

When his body breaks down and he is not feeling healthy, he is probably among the league's worst.

16 is probably a fair assessment. Top 10 to start the year. Bottom 10 at the finish.

I threw the list away as soon as I seen Dak at like 6. LoL :roflmao:Was in top of the league in turnovers be4 he got hurt. Has had number one Rushing leader almost his whole career. Only puts up stats(which I care less about, but everyone uses 2 support him) when they are so far behind the Defense is in prevent, and Won one game last year, and that was a given 2 him, because the team didn't know you can jump on an onside kick be4 it goes 10 yards. Talk about coaching. LoL.

I remember after the Cincinnati game in November PFF ranked Ben’s performance as the worst professional QB performance they had graded since they started out in 2006.

How Tomlin didn’t pull him in that game I’ll never know. It was torture to watch. I’m convinced we’d have won that one with Mason

The context is Qbs "they"rated, or ranked.
Because I seriously doubt that performance was the worse Qb performance since 2006.

They didn’t bench him in that 49ers game years ago when he was clearly too injured to be playing, that’s why I feel they never will as long as he can huddle up.

That’s what they said. It was pretty bad whatever way they graded it. Ben had a QB rating of 14.6 per ESPN I just googled it.

I’ll never forget watching it because it was the night I realised the season was lost after such a great start. They just couldn’t get a first down or sustain a drive at all. Run, run, pass, punt, defence back on the field, all night. It was awful, definitely the worst I have ever seen Ben play.
