Just decided to re-read The Odyssey. I read it in high school, but we just showed the kids the movie O Brother Where Art Thou?, and being as it's based on The Odyssey, I thought it would be a good time to re-read that. It was only $.99 from the Kindle store, and I'm on book 4 and enjoying it quite a bit.

This is the one I got:

I'm posting the link b/c at first I got a different one and it actually wasn't the book. It was just titled "The Odyssey" but it ended up being an essay about it, without any of the actual story included. It was very misleading.

No. Its a one off. Same guy who wrote The Road and No Country for Old Men. Both great books and movies.

I dont think they will ever make Blood Meridian into a movie though.

You will love The Road! Thats a quick read. They filmed that movie in Pittsburgh, actually. I mainly know this because I ran into Viggo Mortenson at a coffee place on the south side. Hahah!!

I will definitely check it out.
As soon as I finish the 4th Book in The Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons. I'm about halfway through the last book.

Ask and you shall receive. The book was just picked up for a movie. Now please don't screw it up!!!!

And if Max Brooks' stuff appeals to you at all, go read it in case the movie butchers it. ;)

Keep in mind its a super brutal read. And by brutal i mean gruesome, which is partly why I dont think it can ever be made into a movie. I guarantee its unlike any kind of storytelling you've read before.

Author Will Thomas has a great series of fiction books featuring the fictional characters Cyrus Barker and his sidekick Thomas Llewelyn. They are similar to the Sherlock Holmes/Watson theme.

Based in Victorian age London. Great series if anyone's interested. Some subtle humor in his writing. "Some Danger Involved" is the first in the series fyi.

I was put off by the modern crime novels as of late. EVERY single one was just the same crap rehashed into a different detective and forensic BS. I pretty much stopped reading Jeffery Deaver, Connelly, Lee, etc.

I really loved the Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child series with fictional detective agent Pendergast but the recent offerings have mixed reviews for me.

Thought I'd share if anyone's looking for something new.
