I must be missing something. Can someone on this board tell me why we need this. If I were a owner I would probably object to this because of the welfare of my team.

If you were an owner, you’d be getting your season ticket holders to pay regular season ticket prices for preseason games, while paying your players doddly-squat in those games. Still have objections?

No, you would be counting the extra revenue these “games” bring in

If I was a Owner and I had a completely different Offensive line
    (Like Some Team I know)
I'd want as many games as I could that didn't count 2 get them ready, or See what else my options would be.
    Hey...., but that's Just Me.

The preseason schedule overall has been reduced to 3 games, don't know if the OP knows this. Pittsburgh and Dallas just have 4 because they are playing in the HOF game.

I am not a fan of 4 preseason games, but it makes sense for the Steelers to be playing in the HOF game this year.

Owners like the extra revenue. Coaches like the extra chance to evaluate players.

I have to say. I am more intrigued by this preseason than I have been by a preseason in a while.

QB roster battle. Punter battle. Lots of spots on the O line up for grabs. Should be fun.

They are reduced prices but not by much really for what you are paying to watch, a meaningless game

Pretty much we all hope the Steelers have to play a grand total of 24 or 25 games this season.

So you can watch young guys play actual games.

Ben will take maybe 2 or 3 possessions in the first 2 games... he will play a half game 3... and will sit game 4.

That's the standard for most starters.

Game 4 is basically watching 45 guys b fighting for the last 5 roster spots and hoping to get in the PS..... or they go home to bag groceries till next camp

NFL: Steelers, we're imposing restrictions on your training camp because 1) we can, 2) we hate Latrobe, PA, 3) we hate your fans, and 4) we like other teams more. But hey, you can play a fourth preseason game. You're welcome. Subscribe.

I'll give you a few reasons
    1. In our case, the new o-line needs time to gel, and only in game experience can accomplish that.... Many teams are in the same boat at different positions

    2. The young guys need a chance to show what they can do.... Many young players have made teams based on what they showed in preseason games....

    3. Players in general need time to shake off the rust.

    4. Actual position battles are won in preseason (in our case think backup QB)

    5. I've already mentioned the young guys ....
But also think about the older guys on the roster bubble trying to hold the young guys off....

    6. As a fan..... IT'S FOOTBALL DAMN IT!!!!!

Not really. NFL revenue is about 15% tickets sales. Preseason tickets are lower priced and poorly sold. The NFL makes the most money on National TV for regular season games.

The correct answer is exactly what is posted above your post.

How much does 4 preseason games bring in to the bottom line? Including the $$$ they get from the networking of these scrimmages?

Not much in comparison to a regular season, as stated above. Then subtract the cost of doing the game, not much left.

The networks generally don’t do the preseason games. The local channels do. Chump change.

They do preseason games to evaluate talent, practice snd to get ready for the season.
