Sadly...I think those days are done...Cowhers strategy/hope was to get the lead,Pound Bettis, maintain the lead and make the other team one dimensional, then pound Bettis even more in the 4th quarter where the other team was tired...And didn't wanna tackle his big Ass no more..

Those games were fun imo, But in todays NFL ( ask the Falcons/Super Bowl ) No lead is safe, you have to match the other teams firepower, and not milk the clock...

Well, actually, they should have run the ball more up 28-3. Matt Ryan marshmallowed the Pats back into the game.

Yep, 3rd down incomplete pass...Next 3rd down sack...If they run on either one of those occasions, game over...Run it both times GUARANTEED game over...They panicked /out thought themselves, Just like Pete Carroll did...

    TWO gifted Super Bowls!

Went back to look at the stats, Freeman only ran 11x for 75 yds a 6.8 average. The other RB ran 7 for 29 4.1. You are correct, should have kept running and they would have a SB win.

Agree and disagree. My favorite memorable quote (unknown Steeler rep) when asked who was the most important Steeler of that decade, "All I know is before Franco came we did not win much, after he came we did not lose much". That said, I just do not think you can build an O around a RB in today's NFL. We definitely need more balance, but the game has evolved to far to highlight the running game IMHO.

I agree. The running game isn't going to improve unless Ben can throw effective passes for intermediate and deep routes. You cannot build an offense when the QB is averaging less than 6 yards a pass attempt, because that affects the whole offense.

And OJ Simpson had 2,000 yards in a 14 game season, he played against tougher competition in the 70s than Brown did in the 60s.

Nah, Tomlin needs to have his starters play all 17 games, resting some of the starters in the season finale didn't work out too well last season. Ben, Heyward, Watt after resting week 17, they all sucked in the playoff loss to the Browns .

I'm thinking Najee gets between 1100-1200 yards rushing.

Stick to football, I didn't mention his personal life, and I don't care about your opinion of him.

There's a ton of variables. I'm not as confident as others that the line will indeed be better than last year. I don't view Finney or Green as upgrades over Pouncey. I'm not sure if Dan Moore fits into the line picture just yet either. I see Dotson as a guy that's going to consistently improve so LG is the position I'm least concerned about this season. I'm not convinced that Banner is the answer at RT. The coaches seemed to love him. Maybe Klemm and Canada will feel the same way or not. Ideally I'd like to see Moore at LT and Okafor at RT. But who knows if Moore will be ready. Then there's the fear of DeCastro being just about finished. The line gelling into a unit and a commitment to the run game will be paramount for Harris to come close to the record Franco set. Great backs also find a way to create their own holes as well.

The other factor will be is how committed Ben is to this offense. If he is, plus what mentioned in the previous paragraph holds true, then Harris will indeed come close. Plus, Harris being healthy will be the other obvious factor. Ben really needs to be on a short leash and play within the game plan. If he doesn't, bench his ass.

The idea of the salary cap was that you no longer could out spend another team to win a Championship. Just take a look at MLB and you'll see that $$$$ = World Series. I believe in the last 20-25 years the Marlins were the only team to win a WS not being in the top 10 in payroll.

Salary cap was to bring parity, not so much for the Lions and a few others.

They had a bye before the 2008 SB run. This team lacks leadership and intestinal fortitude, that one didn't.

Should have kept it to just beating off defenders.
