The 14-game season and 28-team league are still the ideal for me. I realize it's never going back there and only ever getting bigger, but imagine the added depth available if they'd contract the league, and the number of injuries that could be avoided without the 2 extra games.

I guess. But there would be less at 12, 10,...
Eventually there wouldn’t be any injuries
    Kind of like speed limits

Shhhhhhh:whistley: this is the new term for Ben's day. Playoffs because he will take plays off. But keep that under your hat.

Sorry @86WardsWay@86WardsWay, Najee may break Franco's rookie rushing record, but Najee will not be better than Franco. I will settle for nearly as good, or as good as. Sorry, but I have to defend Franco. Franco averaged 5.6 yards per carry his rookie season and made arguably the greatest play in NFL history. I like the similarities of the two: Last name; unusual first names; bigger backs; great field vision; smart football players. If the Steelers don't transition and build the offense around Najee, then that is another example of Tomlin being outcoached.

I don't see any reason the Steelers can't make the playoffs in 2021. Obviously the elephant in the room in Big Bens health issues but if he came back too soon from major elbow injury and it has now fully healed and his nagging knee doesn't bother him much this season then they have an excellent chance of making the post season.

Steelers have a pretty good track record of making the post season.

    STEELERS Playoff Record Summary

    All-Time Playoffs: 62 Games, 36-26
Wild Card Round: 12 Games, 6-6
    Divisional Round: 26 Games, 16-10
    Conference Championship: 16 Games, 8-8
    Super Bowl: 8 Games, 6-2

It's even more impressive considering they only made the playoffs once in 1947 during the first 39 years in the league. Starting in 1972 they became much more consistent. The playoff record is nearly identical to the Dallas Cowboys.

    COWBOYS Playoff Record Summary

    All-Time Playoffs: 63 Games, 35-28
Wild Card Round: 12 Games, 7-5
    Divisional Round: 27 Games, 15-12
    Conference Championship: 16 Games, 8-8
    Super Bowl: 8 Games, 5-3

Between these two teams I think the Steelers have a better chance of making the post season.

Compare these two teams to what the bar has been set at with the Patriots.

    PATRIOTS Playoff Record Summary

    All-Time Playoffs: 58 Games, 37-21
Wild Card Round: 9 Games, 4-5
    Divisional Round: 22 Games, 16-6
    Conference Championship: 15 Games, 11-4
    Super Bowl: 11 Games, 6-5

I may be a bit of a conspiracist here but there should be some *'s next to a few of those wins with some even denying the Steelers to which our playoff record may have benefitted.

Now go way back to the same era where the Steelers entered the league in 1933 instead of the 1960 season where the Cheaters and Cryboys came into the league at the same time and look at the Detroit Lions who entered the league in 1930.

    LIONS Playoff Record Summary

    All-Time Playoffs: 20 Games, 7-13
Wild Card Round: 9 Games, 0-9
    Divisional Round: 5 Games, 3-2
    Conference Championship: 1 Games, 0-1

Looking at these 4 examples proves to me that Steelers fans are indeed spoiled. So wrap yourself up in your little Terrible Towel and boohoo for another exciting season where making the playoffs is still a good possibility.

I don't know. Najee seems to be pretty good. Just have to build the team around him for the future. Quit worrying about getting that next elite QB and just build an Oline first.

Of course this is what they're doing. New OC, new OL coach, first round 3-down back, and basically everybody in the front office screaming from the mountaintops that they are recommitting to the run game.

The question is, will they be a better team for it in a pass-first league?

It'll take a lot more than just Ben's health (which is a big IF) to make the playoffs regardless of what we've done in the past. To me, this year will be MT's biggest challenge before starting a season with all the personnel and coaching changes, plus a schedule from hades.

If it is actually a pass first league then the smart thing to do is run the ball down every teams throat.

I was going to read ahead further but I was afraid I’d run the risk of you admitting your mistake so I figured I just bust your balls instead.

Better have a defense and QB who can win shootouts. Seattle, Tenn, and Balt each have one of those two elements, the lack of the other is fatal against a team that can score at will, like KC.

It's called TOP and keeping the other offense on the bench. Giving the defense the rest needed to try and shut down the offenses when they do come onto the field.

When I tell people MLB needs a salary cap so small market teams like the Pirates have a chance they point out the NFL and the Detroit Lions.

Again, how's that worked out for Tennessee, Baltimore, and Seattle? They're getting to the playoffs, but can't get over the hump.

We...would still have lost our players, but a team like KC and others would have been healthier

Wow, Franco only had 188 carries and averaged 5.6 yards per...also had 10 rushing TD's with 4 receiving. If Najee only averages 15 carries per game at 4 ypc he would still have 1020 yards. I think he gets more carries...and hopefully more YPC.

Unfortunately, that ship has sailed for MLB having a salary cap. Pirates are an absolute embarrassment as proven the other day when they looked like the Keystone Cops against the Cubs.

The NFL has the best system when it comes to competitiveness due to the cap. The NHL is a close second best with everything else miles behind. Maybe soccer is up there but that sport is such a snooze fest that it is beyond unwatchable for me to evaluate.
