I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that aren't they taught in that situation where you are not sure you can regain control of the ball and reestablish your self in the field of play that the best option is to knock it out the back of the endzone. Giving up 2 and possession is favorable over 7.

I watched that play 20 times. It looked 2 me they both thought the other was going 2 jump on it. So neither did. LoL. Bad time for M. Pouncey 2 do that, but he has been having snapping problems on the regular for 2 straight year.
Also not all in Shotgun.

If you Carry the Football on the regular you scoop it if you have time if not you jump on it.. If you pass the Football then you scoop it and throw it away or you kick it out of the back of the endzone.. All OL know they are just suppose to fall on it..

RB'S and QB'S actually practice these things in JV Football and on...It's very hard for me to not think it's been a long time since either of the 2 have practiced the situation ...This is not good from a getting prepared for the game standpoint.. After all the name of the game is Football so anything having to do with keeping it or anything having to do with taking it away should always be practiced.. This is how we always approched Individual time my entire time I have been around the game..
