Yahoo is reporting that the Steelers picked up the 5th yr option on Minkah. Do they have enough room next year to use both? I'd prefer to lock up TJ before the tag bs starts again

    Yup.

To answer your question, I think there will be plenty of money to go around next year.

Still awaiting on Terrell. If anything, it is interesting that question was not asked during the Monday Conference. Hopefully he is next.

    Agreed.

It would not surprise me if T.J. Watt resets the market!

They should offer TJ about 22-23 million a year, if he wants 25 or more let him walk, they shouldn't give him top QB money.

The possibility is they haven't seen enough improvement to warrant the 5th year. He has made strides but is not a major player like Fitzpatrick.

TJ Watt hopefully can get the deal done this year. But their isn't much in the cash till

There is a grey area with Terrell for certain. That said, high quality safety tandems do not grow on trees. Terrell and Minkah compliment each other better than most give them credit for. Simply drafting another one is not going to instantly generate continuity and chemistry contrary to what others believe.

    :hmm:

T.J. Watt is on a HOF pace without question. Letting him walk would be the equivalent of letting Rod Woodson go as I do not think T.J. Watt has approached his peak yet. High praise for certain but T.J. Watt has more sacks in his first four years than even the likes of Khalil Mack (40) and is tied with Von Miller (49 although Von's first two seasons were at ILB according to Pro Football Reference). For that matter, T.J. has more production than any other EDGE Player from the 2017 Draft Class; Myles Garrett included.

Never mind any of this though as the Salary Cap is going to balloon over $200+ Million in 2022. Among the players that will be compensated, T.J. Watt is likely the first or one of. All this said, should he win DPOY this season, I will not be shocked if the team pays him as high as $28 Million per season as complete EDGE players like T.J. Watt do not grow on trees.

Minkas $10.6 is a no brainer, but Terrell's $6.75 might need to wait until after draft day.

Terrell's play should improve with Bush back in the lineup.

will TJ be the same without bud? before they dump that kind of cash i think they wait and see. he's in his 5th year option paying him over 10 mil for the season. what if his production drops with highsmith over there? do we still pay him 28 mil? tackles dropped last year from the previous year, forced fumbles dropped by 6 from the previous year, passes defended dropped from the previous year, interceptions dropped from the previous year. tackles for loss went up and sacks went up by 1/2 a sack from the previous year.

In my opinion the timing of the announcement and locking Minkah down at a set amount, it's to clear the table and get Watt inked into a long term extension that keeps him a Steeler for the next 5 years while potentially giving some slight cap relief.

I agree with you in this case.

But your statement was used by a lot of people when Bumbling Bell was holding out.

Wait until TJ actually holds out and keeps moving the goalposts before making a Bell comparison.

TJ was the same when Bud wasn't producing. TJ is TJ regardless of who compliments him.

Why should he improve with Bush back in the lineup? He was junk before Bush got hurt. Why will he be any better now?

Presumably because Bush would be better in that sideline to sideline middle zone where TE's and Rb's live allowing Edmunds to play safety instead of hybrid safety/LB down in the box. However it doesn't account for the loss of Hilton as a slot corner with good play instincts and tackles better than most of the DB's. So it kinda of is a push.

once albatross Ben is gone, there is $$. We did not win it all with ben and big contracts. Now - we will find a CHEAP QB and pay players around him. We will see....
