We have backups ,as we speak at 4 positions on the D. Just like the O.
So IMO I don't see how picking D in the 1st would be pushing back more pressing needs.
Unless someone thinks the Offense is more important than the Defense. JMO.

Steelers Depot guys are starting to talk about Asante Samuel Jr. in the first?

His athleticism seems to jump out on tape. He would be a nice replacement for Hilton at least for this upcoming season.

Steelersdepot wrote an article on him, but the consensus from the comments is that if he's available in the second, he might be a good value. Pretty universal that they don't want him in the first.

Arthur Moats said JOK is too small, he said he would fit on a 4/3 team as a Will LB.

Well Art II wasn't happy about them being 32nd in rushing, if you pass over Harris or Etienne in the first for defense then you're waiting to address Center, LT in later rounds.

Disagree on this. Remember Pittsburgh M.O. since T.J. Watt; players who have NFL Bloodlines are very enticing. Asante Samuel Jr is no exception as he not is only a very good athlete but a very sound corner. Sure, he is not the usual 6 foot corner the Steelers usually select but Samuel Jr can play both inside and outside.

Not saying he is in play for 24 off the bat but have him under consideration for a contingency option at 24 as I doubt he gets into the Steelers by pick 55.

    :hmm:

Again, that is attempting to fit a square peg into the round hole with J.O.K. That is not how he is supposed to be used. Use him to augment your defensive formation against the opposition's current game plan.

At any point, I believe we both will have to agree to disagree on this one. :drinks:

You can draft a center, or other O- line in 2nd and 4th. There are other rounds.
As far as Rbs. I've already brought this up ....seems a consensus on here is S. Barkley is one of the Greatest backs in the league.....ok I'll give you that....Now how many wins has he delivered in the NFL. Ok . I rest my case on spending a 1st round pick for a RB...that might , or might not be a good as S. Barkley. Since as great as he may be , he has not , really helped the Giants do anything. Why would it be any different here?
I get it , if that's the only thing we need 2 get over the hump.

I would take him in the 1st, but anyone that knows me , knows that.

    IOL Sadarius Hutcherson South Carolina
WR Dazz Newsome UNC (but I don't think they draft a WR this year)
    DL Jonathan Marshall Arkansas
    S Darrick Forrest Cincy
    CB Ben St Juste Minnesota

just a couple mid to late rounders I wouldn't mind seeing added for depth. Sadarius Hutcherson is at the top of the list though

I was thinking Johnathan Marshall, but didn't want 2 try 2 sell a Razorback. Of course I've seen all his play. Plus I think he maybe better with a 4-3 D.

Yeah, that’s a bad take by Moats. Stuck in the past.

He is on the lighter side at 295 or thereabouts but I'd like to see him added to the PS if no one grabs him. I would hope he could add 10-15lbs. It's hard to project lineman to the team anymore based on 3-4 vs 4-3 as its all over the place with varying fronts but I know what you mean.

And drafting a CB in the first round isn't going to get them over the hump either .

No , but it will make the D better, and deeper. Where's a 1st round Rb will do nothing if our line is not fixed.

If they draft a RB in the first round, I still expect them to draft a center, and a LT.

They definitely need to draft a starter capable center.

I’ll throw another one out there since they haven’t addressed in FA, Tommy Tremble, TE.

This guy would be the closest thing we’ve had to Heath since he retired. His production is pedestrian at best but he’s had Kmet ahead of him two seasons ago and Mayer last year but he has athletic abilities and shows it when his number is called. What he is asked to do a lot of is block, great blocker and loves to do it, not many TE’s actually like to block anymore even if they are good at it but this guy thrives at it.

I think Canada would take advantage of his athletic ability while putting his blocking to good use, would be a big plus in the run game.

An excellent blocker but I am concerned about his offensive upside. It's tough to gauge with Book throwing the ball. He does none of his receiving options any favors.

I don't think we can go TE before Round 4 though. Especially for a guy who will be largely a blocking TE out of the gate.
