Why is this guy unemployed? The most I could find was he was showboating after punts but there has to be more than that.

It’s mystifying that the best we can ever do is Berry.

It seems Teams just don't want to deal with a Diva at the Punter position. It also seems players don't like him very much, a lot of Players don't even consider kickers and punters as real Football Players so maybe that view and his mind set is why ?

Do they really HAVE to like the punter? I think if he's setting up the defense with a long field at their backs, they are going to learn to like him. Give this guy a shot!!!!

Well, the guy is gonna be 33, and he hasn’t punted in the NFL in 3 yrs. and it wasn’t like he was anything great his last yr in Denver. Being old, average and unlikeable is a bad combination when seeking employment.

I am guessing that there is something that NFL Gms know about King, that the media never picked up on.

King was one of the best punters in the NFL, and 33 isn't that old by kicker standards.

There has to be more to the story besides likability.

How much of a difference does kicking in (warmer) CA weather make, compared to (sometimes frozen) PA climate?
King also had 3 blocked punts, compared to Berry's 1.

Berry is average, but that does not mean that he is bad, despite what some fans think.
(16 other teams have below-average punters.)
He is getting the vet cap-discounted year-by-year contract. (There are 16 punters being paid more than him.)
That is decent value, I think.
Improving the position will likely cost more, or require a pick in this year's draft.

That's funny. I was watching the 94 AFCCG the other day and forgot how Mark Royal looked liked a guy who would be sitting at the end of a local bar minding his business and would be like I can try kicking.

We have a nice number of picks this year... USUALLY, Not even a single Punter gets drafted..IF, There is a really good one you can have for years...Why not use your last pick to get him!

Didn't we use a draft pick for a long snapper some years ago and we ended up cutting him I believe. With more needs than draft picks, that would not compute picking a ST player to pick up a yard or two ave on punts. If he is unemployed, there is a reason for that. JMO>

Agreed. You don't throw away draft picks, not even in the sixth or seventh round. Think of some of the great players drafted that late or not drafted at all. Then think of the solid guys who were available that late. Sure, it is most likely a player taken that late won't work out, but it happens often enough that you don't want to waste the picks. They re-signed Berry. He's not great, but he's fine. If he can repeat what he did from the time he returned to the team last season, punter will be far down the team's list of concerns.

That's only a mistake in hindsight.
The team lost their long snapper, so they brought in two players to make sure that hole was filled.
The fact that both of them would have worked (and Holba was cut) was the best outcome.

    Canaday wasn't a sure thing.
Imagine if the team didn't draft Holba, and Canaday continued playing like he did for the Cardinals when he was cut?

It's from plays like that. He had the audacity to call the fake on his own and then gets an unsportsmanlike penalty after.

You can't afford a diva punter.
