Do you think Ben's arm strength will be better in 2021? Last year he threw all the quick short passes, which some may attribute to keeping him from getting hit. His accuracy downfield was questionable due to his arm strength. Looking back at game film his shoulder looked more like a whipping motion as opposed to a natural rotation. I feel he was trying to over compensate for his lack of arm strength when throwing. His throwing mechanic looked more like he was shot-putting the ball. Don't get me wrong, he could still throw further than me, but that is a concern I have for him going into the 2021 season.

Sure it wasn't his leg strength?

That worked for Phillip Rivers his whole career! What bothered me was not the distance he could throw but, the accuracy. Throwing high, low, behind the receiver. Hopefully, he can clean that up!

It seemed to me like his arm was way more than enough until...The " mysterious " leg problems ( that we never did really get to the bottom of ) ...

I thought I heard players mention ( because the media was asking them after his elbow surgery ) about his arm strength...And them responding that his arm strength was BETTER than it had been in a long time?

Yea I don’t think Bens arm looked weak similar to Peyton at the end where it was duck balls. Problem is Ben can’t complete throws over 15 yards so I’m not sure how that gets fixed.

Ben can’t move anymore and is a statue back there. He also doesn’t want to get hit so gets rid of the ball super quick. The end result is a dink and dunk offense that when teams move everyone towards the LOS we can’t move the ball.

Some of the beat writers wrote how they noticed Bens arm angle was different when he was throwing in camp but that was it, his arm strength seemed fine.

I really think it was his knees that derailed his season and that’s what has me worried because if it was arthritis like some reports have said, that’s not getting better.

I think his arm strength is fine. Accuracy on deep throws starts with your lower body. Ben's base was terrible at the end of the year.

As others have said, the issues seemed to start when he was apparently having knee problems. I think his arm was OK, but the quick passes, regardless of the reason, caused problems for the offense.

Yep a QB needs his knees to get the correct bend and create correct release points , I fear all we will see from Ben is more dink and dunk..Even on those medium throws without the correct follow through most of those will sail high as well..Maybe we can design a elite passing tree for the dink and dunk , but it's going to be very hard to throw across the ball short Teams are going to flood that area....

Would love hear that Ben has been working on his mechanics with a QB guru, this off-season. As others have said, I think his arm strength was okay, but his fundamentals weren’t great.

You're right. Go back and watch the Eagles game, where Claypool had like 8 TD's. Ben's arm was on point.

You can go back to that gameday thread and at one point during the game I said something like "I think Ben's arm is all the way back." I got quite a few agreements. He looked great. Then all of a sudden, a few weeks later, the narrative was "Ben's arm is shot. It's gone. If he was a race horse he should be shot."

I was like, wait a minute, I don't think his arm went to hell in a few weeks. There were other factors.

This isn't an issue of mechanics that can be dialed in through repetition. This isn't an issue of strength, or lack thereof, that can be dealt with physically. It's an issue of an aged and damaged body that can't, and won't, get better. In fact, it will in all likelihood get worse. His knees will not be better in 2021 without surgery. He might be able to improve muscle memory with his new canon and gain a bit of accuracy, but we won't be able to rely on accurate medium to deep balls from him because he simply doesn't have, and won't have, a solid base to throw from.

He is a severely limited QB and will handcuff our offense just as bad as last season. He is Tomlin's security blanket. Success with him makes Tomlin look good and failure with him places the blame on him. We get to throw away a season so they can ride off in the sunset together. Tomlin won't coach this team after Ben retires.

Doctors in here...Ok, Let's say for arguments sake that it's NOT arthritis in his knee / knees...Is it possible at his age to " maybe " really strengthen his knee , " get better ? I personally don't think so...And again ,I'm just grasping ...But I never looked at Ben as the Rocky Balboa type Athlete...That at 6 o'clock in the mornings is drinking raw eggs and running up the steps on the North Shore...

Only thing we can hope for is...maybe, just maybe ...Ben KNOWS this is absolutely his last season, last chance...That he has read all the bad about him, all the articles about HIM being the weak link, about HIM being done!

Maybe, just maybe...This will make him be out in his back yard...Chasing that damn chicken around, in those dingy Ass grey sweatpants...

I am far from a doctor. But my guess is that a fresh Ben starts the season hot, and then his play declines as the season, and his body, takes its toll.

I think it might be wise to rest Ben if his knees get to bad toward the end. If playing Mason for a couple of games means Ben is more healthy, able, for the playoffs. It is probably worth it.

Maybe we can get Ben training in the Ivan Drago system with the computers and what not.

He has taken a beating his whole career. Whether its the elbow, knees, back, ankles, head it doesn't matter. Need a respectable running attack.

Lets see what Canada cooks up. More of what we saw late last season is not going to cut it.

Issue is how the new look Offensive Line will perform.

Bens retirement ride off might be a rocky one...

    Popcorn won't pull him...

These things don’t just go away. So no his arm won’t get stronger. We saw the results of the surgery and rehab during the season.

Yep... Remember the year Bell was suspended... Deangelo Williams was leading the league in rushing, and when Bell came back...He ran him into the ground..And Williams hardly played...Then Bell got hurt heading into the playoffs ( our best year , and shot at a trophy )

THAT........Was the final straw with me, with Popcorn...Ass Clown couldn't get out of his own way...Who would do something so stupid and arrogant...Him and only him that's who...I knew right then...The Steelers won't win another one with this Clown...

And they haven't... Haven't even came close!

Funny, I thought all the highlights always showed balls that were not thrown in a tight spiral.

From the beginning of last year I thought his passed look liked ducks. Ben didn't seem to have the zip on the ball like he used too.

I think Ben will be fine if he has a running game. I don't think his arm is shot but probably not let's not have him throw 50 times a game.and test the ole arm.

So moral of the story, run the damn ball. Take time off the clock and control the time of possession. Take the deep play when given.off misdirection and playaction. Let your defense rest a bit so they're not on the field all day then people say it's their problem.

    Run the ball

Ben has not started a season “hot” in the last ten years, if ever. But otherwise, this is the most likely scenario. It will just happen sooner than last year.

But this isn't Rocky I. This is more like Rocky 18, where Rocky loses a step in the wheelchair basketball league.
