So average play is acceptable depending upon where are you were drafted?

Not if you want franchise money. Bud's good but not top tier, he should think about retiring a Steeler.

Why? He could go to a team that is serious about contending for a Super Bowl. Steelers are not that team right now and won't be for a few more years.

Crazy thing is ....most teams that sign these crazy top flight free agents aren't SB contenders.

What? If that was the case with the NFL... the Redskins and Cowboys would be dominating. Giants, Jets and LA teams too. I'm glad there's a salary cap... just don't like how the Steelers are managing it right now by keeping over-the-hill vets that will never sniff a Super Bowl.

Has he been offered a contract? I'm sure the Steelers would like to keep him if feasible.

Yes it did. In his option year he had a double digit sack total. The 4 years previous were sub par.

The Steelers offered him a contract last year, he turned it down, then they Tagged him, so I would assume the contract was somewhere in that neighborhood. And he wanted more.

I don’t see the Steelers offering him a contract before the March 17 free agency. Therefore, for now he is just in a holding pattern.

Just my thought, someone will make him an offer, but because of the injury, it will be less than the Steelers offered last year. Less dollars, less signing, less years. It will still be more than the Steelers will want to match.

Ever player has the right to make as much as they can. But when given a very good offer one has to look at expected value, risk vs reward, etc. Bud, just like Bell, made bad decisions by turning down good offers. Bell paid for it. I expect Bud will as well. I blame the agents.

Was the contract the Steelers offered Bud made public, I don't remember the numbers if it was. I remember he wanted to be classified as an edge rusher, not a OLB, because it paid better.

There's way more to it than that, like whether you happen to like a player or think he's a bum.

If the former, all good. The latter, completely unacceptable.

Hardly anybody is a bum while wearing a Steeler uniform, yeah there are a few though over-valued Bud isn't one of them.

No. Your just obsessed with Dupree.
Dupree didn’t pick where he was drafted.

Example: Highsmith is drafted in the 3rd and most are happy with his production and his progress. But if he was drafted in the first round then all the sudden he would be a bust and the Steelers need to get rid of him.

Bud Dupree was a raw talent that took a little longer to develop because of factors like injuries and coaching. Frustrations were definitely warranted, but the over the top hatred and bashing that took place with him were just plain stupid.
