Kyle Rudolph has been released by the Vikings. He's only 31 and we need a TE2 with Vance retiring.

Better choices will be available if they want to go the FA route. Younger, too.

Years of ignoring the TE position in the draft is catching up.

I don’t think Rudolph is an option unless they cut Ebron.

Will he play for free? Maybe he'll pay the Steelers for a roster spot.

I suggested that for Ben and it doesn't look like that will happen either. Dare to dream.

If anything, I think our OL owes us some money back for last season.

But you missed the point, he was just released so we must sign him, like we need to sign everyone.

Agreed. I know you're not for keeping/extending Ebron. I'm alright with it, but that comes with an assumption that they would add a solid blocking TE who could still serve as a threat as a receiver a la Miller or Bruener. Blocking v. receiving skills aside, I'd want more youth than Rudolph, especially at the cost.

Baby steps back to a form of TE I think would be more productive for the O.

If Ben is still calling the shots, Ebron stays. Ebron became Ben's security blanket last season. No way Ben lets him go unless he gets overruled and a new offensive philosophy gets adopted...you know, one that believes a balanced offense is better than the 80/20 one that favored the pass last year.

I don't mind Ebron sticking around because he can do some damage in the passing game. So I believe that if he's let go, that signals a change in attitude/scheme/philosophy.

I agree with the Ben/Ebron connection, but am not looking for the PTB to necessarily cut him to show signs of change. Better said: I'm not going to get discouraged if they opt to keep him. Like you mentioned, he's got utility, but with the amount of capable WRs the team has been able to forage over the years I don't see the need for a TE whose hands are better used to catch than block.

One of the oddities to me in terms of the decisons over the past few years has been the overloading of the personnel and scheme to suit the pass in Ben's post-35 years. I get trying to seize a window, but no one seemed to think a potent running game could equally aid both Ben and his successor.
