while I may agree I don't think coach Tomlin is the guy that can handle a rebuild for a team.

They have nearly $170m 2022 in cap space as things stand today according to OTC. Even allowing for big money extensions for TJ, Minkah and others and whatever they push in from restructures they should have a lot more headroom than they have had in years.

If they can get 3-4 contributors in this draft and next year they should be in a good place money wise. They need to find more Kevin Dotsons and Alex Highsmiths in those middle rounds. In fairness to the team they nailed that last draft considering the capital they had going in.

All the more reason to get rid of him too. But let's not kid ourselves, he'll be getting his extension soon.

They have only 17 players under contract 2022 totalling $58m, all the older more expensive players will be gone unless they extend them, and even if they do I don’t see them getting market leading contracts.

Things will change a lot between now and then of course. It’s just an estimate based on where they are at today if they make no roster moves at all. You’ll have two rookie classes coming in, extensions for Ben, TJ and Minkah etc. The figure will probably be closer to $50m by the time they get to 2022 but they will still have more cap space than they are used to having.

Probably not but if they wanted a way out of this, give him a number to play at and if he doesn’t like it, there’s the door and if he accepts, at least they’ve helped themselves out a little.

I have a very reliable source in the organization that assures me of something you all don't know. Ben is going to come back at vet minimum, and in the best shape in his career. His knees are both being surgically replaced (not just repaired, but replaced with a titanium alloy...fda approved and safe for food prep areas). He will be the league MVP and actually throw an "accidental" errant pass into the visiting sideline, impaling Brady in the testicles. Then the Steelers will trade him the following season for Mahomes and a 1st round draft pick.

Just relax, all of you. Deucer and KC have things well in hand. 3 more rings by 2025.

I would like to know why this meeting was Ben and Art II (tomlin was supposed to be there) but no Colbert? Is this why Colbert is on 1 year deals? is he tired of what might be starting to look like a Jerry Jones type situation with a Owner meddling too much? Just a curious random thought.

The 2021 season is a waste (rebuild) anyway and Ben is only back for one season IMO then maybe Rudolph in 2022. We need to fix the 0-line first before we send our next franchise QB out there. So it`s a two year repair job. Fix the 0-line and running game this draft and next. If no stud RB falls to us this year, get him next year.

If it all works out great, our next franchise QB in 2023 has protection that holds up and a power run game to take the pressure off the need to throw a whole lot.

Is losing a home playoff game more embarrassing than not making the playoffs?

I keep seeing this narrative that 'Ben doesn't want to end his career on that loss to the Browns'. Is going 7-9 and not even making the playoffs a better send-off?

Thats why Tomlin wasn't there. My question is why Colbert was not even scheduled to be there.

Without a running game were doomed. Running was abysmal. Sets up the pass game. Why not start the rebuild now. No delay.

My hope would be that KC wasn't using the same words or numbers that Ben and Agent wanted to hear. Instead of going around in circles, KC may have asked Rooney to speak to them so they would hear what the final word (or framework of a deal) is going to be and cut out the middle man chit chat. Then again, Ben and his agent may have requesting to hear if Rooney would say the same things as KC did and be from the horses mouth. This ideal s far from certain IMO. Not sure what would be so difficult to agree on if Ben isn't concerned about the money (per his words).

I don't know why anyone, especially those in the organization, would think that Ben will be any better this season than last. His age and the tolls of all the physical punishment over the years are NOT going to get better. He limits the offense. He makes it predictable, regardless of his experience and command of it. He is losing the center he has played most of his career with. The OL is in flux.

The lack of faith they have in our stable of qb's is staggering. And not that they should have faith in them, but it's telling just how little they trust in what we currently have to put all our eggs in Ben's basket, and likely be willing to pay for that for seasons to come.

We are not a playoff team with Ben behind center. Are we with Rudolph or Haskins? Probably not. But why not find out?

How long will it take this new 2023 franchise QB to be able to take this team well into the playoffs? Conservatively, maybe 2-3 years if that all works out great? So now we're looking like we get somewhere by 2025-2026. Who wants to wait until 2025 or later to be competitive again when we can start this process NOW.

Running game suffered because of abysmal OL play combined with an offensive gameplan geared to protect Ben more than move the ball. The running game won't produce until we get linemen to road grade and get rid of Ben. The game plan sets up the run game in our case. And last season, we simply didn't want to run the ball at the expense of our qb's health. You cannot run effectively out of shotgun and Ben can't/won't get under center enough to put rb's in a position to succeed. And the small ball offense is only effective if you can throw over the top once the db's get sucked in. A boxer can't win if he only throws jabs. That's what Ben gave us last season, and what we should expect next season.

And don't forget that we have the defense to make noise RIGHT NOW. Wasting even ONE year with this defense is a travesty.

Let's not over think this, you cannot plan in getting a franchise QB 2 years down the road...there is no 1st round QB drafter between 09-14 on their original team. MR will be a FA after this year, I doubt there will be a mad rush of cash grabbers trying to sign him, but you also cannot plan on him being here. Besides what Colbert said (and that really was over exemplified in media coverage), the team pretty much said all along if the details could be worked out Ben would be back. The long term QB situation is just another cog they will fill as they rebuild this team, they got lucky when Ben was still there at 11 and nearly muffed that up...finding a franchise QB is not as easy as waiting untill allthe other pieces are in place.
