    I miss him....

    So much....

Happy though to see that he is living his best life now that his days on the gridiron are over. Very much into movies it seems.

You say that, and I agree. Though, I remember when he was drafted. I don't remember what board I was on . Alot of people were saying. Can't believe we drafted that injury prone midget. Of course none of them will admit it now. I myself didn't comment. Well. Because I only seen him play in 2 college games. Being he played 4 USC. I don't like 2 comment on something I haven't really seen.

Speaking of commercials I watched Boomer and that hot chick's show about Super Bowl Commercials last night. Some really great ones over the last 20 years. My favorite is still those little babies for E-Trade.

A once in a lifetime player. Unfortunately even the elite have to leave the game. I will never forget the pick in the 2008 AFC Championship game being I was there, snow falling, we all went nuts. Amazing game which led to the 6th Lombardi...

    So....

Finding another Troy is a silly endeavor all together. For that matter, Tomlin already attempted this (more on this later) and failed. None of that matters though as Troy was special for one major reason; chaos.

Troy caused absolute chaos no matter where he lined up. No other Safety in the 100+ years of NFL History had the freedom or capability that Troy did. For that matter, no one ever will. However, that is not the biggest issue I have with some of the statements about finding another Troy.

My biggest issue stems from the fact that, due in part to the rulebook more so favoring the Offense generating points, finding another Troy is silly. For that matter, Mike Tomlin already attempted to do so with Terrell Edmunds as Edmunds was better suited as being in the box while being able to move everywhere like Troy did... with a caveat. Troy also had legendary ball skills while Edmunds did not; instincts and football IQ the same. This was made even more apparent after the Week 2 loss to Seattle in 2019. At that point, Tomlin realized that "finding another Troy" was silly. To that end, Tomlin realized that the only way to counter act the high flying Offenses is finding a Safety who possessed Troy's instincts and football IQ in a similar fashion but would also have the reckless abandon to attack the ball in the air the way Troy did. Enter Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick is the spiritual successor to Troy in the fact that his reckless abandon stems from the evolution of the game. Safeties like Adrian Wilson, Bob Sanders and Chris Hope would not thrive in today's game as generating turnovers through a myriad of ways is the most efficient method NFL Defenses have. Minkah has the versatility and athletic ability to do so in which only the likes of Troy, Ed Reed and Brian Dawkins can rival. While it is not even close to being as noticeable as Troy's unpredictability, Minkah possess near identical traits in the passing game as he can lockdown any major section of the field; doubly so in the middle of it. Given the fact that teams generally target this area anyways, this is where Minkah shines and some of the Troy comps can come into fruition. Again, he has tied the likes of Ed Reed, Deion Sanders, Ronnie Lott and Rod Woodson for most Defensive Touchdowns within that player first three seasons with four total. No other Defensive Back before or since Minkah comes even close.

In short?! Minkah is as close to Troy as we will ever see thanks to the NFL Rules. People who believe another Troy can still play can look to the likes of the Seahawks as Pete Carroll has already been on record in stating Jamal Adams can be another Troy. Look how that has turned out and, for that matter, continue to see how that turns out as Jamal Adams does not have the ball skills that either Fitzpatrick or Troy had.

AQL - You are right about not finding another Troy ever but it has less to do with the rule changes and more to do with his uncanny freakish instincts. While the rule changes limit the defensive secondary, especially with the PI rules and such, Troy had such natural ability to place himself at the right place at the right time that he would still shine in todays game and maybe even more so cause his ability to read the play before the ball was even snapped.

Minkah does show those instincts as well but at no where the level Polamalu did. My biggest problem with Minkah is he avoids tackles, takes bad angles and throws the shoulder too much and therefore in my book, he's about half the player Troy was.

I had forgotten about this, but great timing. We just showed Groundhog Day to our kids last night, so they'll love this.

    Disagree.

Troy always attempted to run right through his opponents. That reckless abandon and absolute fearless ability is part of what made so many admire him; myself doubly so and no less. Should he attempt to play like that in his prime today, Troy might have more elections than any other player in that occuring season.

Regarding Minkah, the aforementioned instincts that I speak of are almost never noticeable due to the fact that his near pre cognition stems from the deep middle to the deep half zone he plays from. If anything, the Week 5 Matchup against Cleveland is the best example of Minkah's instincts compare to Troy's but in a different aspect.
