Healthy team vs chiefs in the regular season we are better. Come playoff time they turn it up and we get worse.

True. But it’s safe to say they are going to lose significant players and depth. I dont feel good about next season. Hope I’m wrong. There is a surprise team every season, I hope it’s us.

Reload is the key word there.

Rebuild to me is having a fire sale, getting rid of your best players for draft picks. This team will never be in a rebuild.

We don’t even know what the cap number is going to be yet and there has been reports that it will probably be higher than 180 million. Add in Bens restructure which gets them roughly 13 million more in cap space and it’s not quite the sky is falling as it’s being made out to be.

To me, how well they do next season hinges on Ben more than anything else. Ben first 11 weeks and they will be right in the mix again, Ben after week 11, will be ugly.

There are some fans on here that want to rebuild in 2021, and be ready for 2022 because of the cap space they will have, the Steelers would never do that.

"In the next 12 months" Some will leave now, some after the '21 season.

This is the only real 'rebuild' opinion I see represented here. I am completely for it. Call it a reload or retool if you want. Two drafts plus next off season with funds to spend, compete in '22. That's what I want and believe is the best way to go forward. I haven't seen anyone say [it's possible someone did] the Steelers should sell off lots of players, acquire lots of draft picks, and build for several seasons out. That isn't a concept with any traction.

Beyond that, I know the Steelers won't do what I want. It's not a discussion of what I think the Steelers will do. It's what I think they should do. I absolutely believe they will not contend in '21 regardless. I just see too many aging guys and cap issues to think we'll have an improved team next year. I also don't believe we are coached well, but I digress... It's very frustrating and it's why some folks get mad at Art. We simply disagree with how the owner is doing things. That's all. We aren't trying to convince Art to do something different. He doesn't give a damn what we think. We'll still bleed black and gold and hope for the best. Meanwhile, some people think we can make minor adjustments and have a real shot at #7. We'll find out who is right.

Well you have to make the playoffs to have a shot to contend, what kind of message does that send to the veterans on the team, let's not even try in 2021?

The way I look at it, you have to be in it to win it. I’m not one that thinks this team was lucky to be 11-0, a lot of things went wrong for the season to dissolve into what we saw.

They will keep enough of the important pieces to be in the mix again plus if they draft like they did last season, will only improve their chances to fielding a competitive team.

One caveat is they must be willing to bench Ben if he starts playing like he did at the end. Might not make much difference but can’t keep rolling him out there if he has nothing left.

I don't think we were the best team in the NFL for 11 weeks. Maybe in record only but I'd venture to say if we played a lot of other teams in those first 11 weeks that would have been made be very obvious (KC, GB, NO, Bills, etc. I agree with everything else you said as it is spot on IMO

How many 1st rounders did it take for our defense to be decent? Nearly every position?

The Steelers org doesn't do big things to get across the finish line -all that often. Its like being a race car owner and our car is faltering. Other car owners would change engines, the Steelers just changing the spark plugs and oil. I don't advocate a rebuild because I don't know what's going to happen between now and post draft. In other words, I don't know what I don't know which may alter many things, good and bad. So, for me, its lets see what shakes out and then once we get clarity, I can set expectations accordingly.

We all have seen the Browns, Detroit, Miami, and Washington rebuild completely. I could name more. What has it helped them??? Of course some may say , but they're not the Steelers, and I say... that's why they are not. IMO dumping everything, and hopefully everything is better, or selling the farm for one player is never the way 2 go . Those Teams prove it.

we are ranked 29 worst in cap space for this season. we will lose bud, our starting LT, looks like a shell of our center is returning, DD hasnt been the same for two years, our LT and best ILB is coming off major knee injuries, one of them needs signed, we lose a starting wr, we lose a starting RB, we lost a blocking TE and a second one had major knee injury, we still have vince but have to sign backups, our two corners are in their last season, we lost two corners, we lost our depth at safety, we dont have a QB signed after this season, our best defender is only signed for this season, we have changed the coaches on offense, so to sum it up a reload is not even in our hands for the most part. we will be lucky to field enough players to field a team with the money we have and allowing players to come back. thats a lot to say we will reload and contend with.

I wonder how Rooney will feel next November after pushing several millions from several over the hill players into future years while the Steelers are 2-6.

Not unless they completely change their philosophy and identity, otherwise they're rolling out a less talented version of the 2020 team against a much harder schedule.

Which teams in the league were "fully healthy" this season? If anyone is waiting for an injury free season to bring a Super Bowl, it's going to be a long wait.

The core of the defense is still intact minus Bud but have Highsmith to step in. Probably sign either Sutton or Hilton. Players come back for knee injuries all the time. Replace Conner with draft pick, still have Benny and McFarland. Sign a TE in FA, Ebron is still going to be the receiving TE and second year in the system. Depth signings are easy, Watt will be extended. Claypool going into his second season will only get better, still have Johnson and Washington, they’ll draft a WR which they are good at. Banner coming back, Dotson is a keeper, DD has been dealing with injuries, nothing to suggest he can’t play if healthy, Pouncey if he comes back will be serviceable but draft picks will be used on a center and tackle most likely. Bens restructure will help alleviate cap concerns plus Vance retiring has freed up some space and still don’t know what the cap will be set at but most think it’s going to be higher than 180.

Only reason they would struggle to be competitive is if Ben is what we saw at the end of the season.
