PFF rated Ben the worst QB of the league over the last 5 weeks of 2020 season. I know Ben is talking paycut, he’s earned the league minimum or beg him to retire. I know Ben won a SB 12 years ago before that’s brought up

What would be the cap hit if he takes a pay cut (down to $4m-6m) with no extension?

As it stands his cap hit is 41million for the 2021 season. He could take a pay cut to $0, but would still cost us 22,000,000 due to his contract restructures.

Maybe it’s not blind believers, but people who observed him playing hurt. He healed up for the Colts game, and had good and bad moments in the playoff game. Had they not started with the turnover, the game may have gone completely different.

That’s due to restructures not extensions.

I don’t believe you can take a pay cut without either being cut and re-sign to a new contract at a lower price or getting an extension and taking a pay cut in that new deal.

Did he heal up miraculously during halftime of the Colts game? Bens first half vs Indy was as bad as any he played all yr.

Yup, I remember some great performances including when I thought his knee was destroyed (against the Ravens?) and he came back out on the field. Guy has been an absolute tank, but nobody outruns Father Time

The fact that they rated him and the team worse than cam Newton and jarett stidham in NE immediately disqualifies pff from legitimacy

Yeah . Agreed. PFF is really crap in my mind. I said it and I'll say it again. All it took was the time . D. Prescott threw 1 pick , 2 tds, fumbled the ball away, and lost the game. He got a higher PFF ranking than the Qb he played ,that had no turnovers, 2tds thrown, a rushing td , and Won the game. That's when I said. F*** PFF.

Think you are correct. Read somewhere last year that if everything were done correctly they could get that 19 million cap hit to around 7.5. I have no idea who came up with that number, but it was bascially another ext, and pushing the other money 1 or tqo years down the road. So I think his cap hit will still likely be in the 30-32 million range.

Ben won't admit that he was injured more than he let on with that bum knee. It affected his whole game the second half of the season. Hopefully he gets it worked out in the offseason and goes back under center.

    Hey Steelers 304 and All.

I will say this to the cows come home. Some here think that Ben’s Elbow Injury was a minor, rub some dirt on it and he would be fine and ready for this past season opener.

I am telling folks here from what I know.

If some of you want to continue to put up the same Threads just worded differently then as much as I feel the need too, I will continue to make a case for Ben this past (current) season.

Folks, this was Major Reconstructive Surgery. Three out of the five tendons in his elbow had to be re-attached. I have Degrees in Sports Exercise & Physiology, Human Performance, Biology, other sciences and have Competed and Coached for over forty years.

Although I am not close to Ben’s situation, I can tell everyone here, with a high degree of certainty, that again this was not a little “boo-boo” kiss it and go back in the game injury.

This is more like a 2-Year healing process.

This may be the biggest sticking point of all. Elbow injury or no injury. This Offense was put at a DISADVANTAGE from Day #1 with no running game to speak of. Our running Game was near Non-Existent for the majority of the season. This was a set-up for disaster from the get go. We were working with an "Imbalanced" Offense for most of the season. Not Good!

Ben was good enough to play but not to carry the team. And that is what he was asked to do with no running game. Some here saw a few off-season videos of him throwing a tennis ball around and a got all pumped-up. Me personally, I knew that I needed more proof than that. That is why we saw the “Dink and Dunk” Offense so much at the beginning. The idea was to have a Running Game to support a "Healing" Ben. It never happened. Thus, he was asked to do too much and the arm, for lack of a better word, “conked-out”.

Given all of this, none of us know how next season will unfold, that includes me too, “Mr. Science” (smile). However, given what I know about Sports’ Medicine/Injuries I am betting on a Better Ben and in BIG PART this is equally contingent upon fixing our “Running Game Woes”.

Finally, look at Ben's Final 2020 Season Statistics. Not bad at all. Again, I go by facts folks, not emotions. They are actually really good. However, notice the Low Passing Yards. That is due to "Protecting" the Elbow with the "Dink and Dunk" that we saw so much of. Again, no Running Game contributed to this big time. Now, IMO, the second half of the Colt's game, is more of a preview for next season.

    • Passing Completion Percentage: 65.6%
    • Passing Yards: 3,803
    • TDS: 33
    • INTS: 10
    • QBR: 94.1

And if I am correct, I think we had the worst Running Game in the league.

Ben received a free pass this year with no fans in the stands.

Next year he is going to get the rath of Steeler nation both at home and on the road when he stinks up the place. The Steeler Fans travel well and we will all see those funny sign about how Ben must go, and hear all the Boos and comments about how bad his play really is.

Once he loses the fans every sports show out there will have him front and center, going on and on about how far Ben has fallen and showing all the homemade signs as fans ask Art to get rid of Ben.

And then finally Art will tell Tomlin to get Ben out of there.

Absolutely no reason Ben was not benched in the Cincinnati game. I would love for a reporter to ask Canada if he was OC, would he have benched Ben in the Cincinnati game at halftime. I was hoping the Steelers would have brought in a new OC, former Head Coach, or OC, that would make Ben practice and compete for the starting job next year.

I’ve been thinking about this myself. Next season is not going to be good, the roster is going to be severely weakened and Ben is going to be another year older. I really don’t want to see ‘Bench Ben’ signs at Heinz Field.

2020 had a really disappointing end but unfortunately it’s as good as it’s going to get. Ben coming back for another run with the deck stacked against him just looks like a desperate guy that won’t accept it’s over.

Very well written and I appreciate your defence of Ben. While his elbow injury was a major concern you completely overlooked Ben’s knees. His inability to take snaps under center and even attempt play action was as big a factor in our ineffective running game as our backs and our OL. Even if we had Derrick Henry running the ball it wouldn’t have made a difference if defences knew what our offence could and couldn’t do.

I love what Ben has done for the Steelers but it’s time for him to go.

For me it’s all about the alarming lack of mobility. In the pocket he moves around as if he is 80 years old. If he gets hit it looks like one of those old I’ve fallen and can’t get up commercials for life alert. He still knows the offense and his arm is still OK and maybe could be better this year but the guy cannot move or get under center. It was worth a shot trying to comeback last year and even as pitiful the offense was down the stretch he could go out on a decent note. A year older with a worst roster next year will have Ben going out as a complete loser and that’s a shame to his legacy. Gotta know when to hold em know when to fold em.

Steel I appreciate the thoughtful posts and optimism about this turning on a dime and fix the running game however.......

Let me spell this out for you. We have no money...... we have nowhere near a starting caliber NFL Running Back...... We have one of the worst offensive lines in Football.

We would need 5 first Round picks to fix all these issues. Time to accept reality and understand even if they don’t admit it a rebuild on offense should happen wether they like it or not. Trotting out beaten down Ben who looks like a once proud race horse heading to the glue factory is mistake number 1 but this Rooney has no spine nor unbiased judgement apparently. Don’t be so naive as him.

You just wasted your time posting that. It doesn't matter that we were 12 - 4 with a bad Oline. It doesn't matter that Ben was top 10 in most categories coming off major surgery. With a bad Oline. Hell some would rather have someone that had worse stats , and 2 times as many losses. ??? I know I've seen it posted on here. They will spout. Play under shotgun is all he can do. Yet KC, & Baltimore ran more shotgun than we did. Hell I'm wasting my time posting this. Cause they believe what they want , and no amount of proof, or data will change that.

Do I think Ben is over, yes I do but I sure hope he goes out with dignity from from the fans. To see signs, "Bench Ben" would just be bad for the organization.

Although, one thing I learned from New England fans it really is what have you done for me lately. I think the reason I'm now pulling for the Tampa Bucs is because the Patriot fans I had to put up with for the last 20 years have turned on Brady with a vengeance.

Say Ben had with us what Brady had with the Pats. Now Ben goes to another team and takes them to a SB. I'd root for him unless it was against the Steelers. I sure the hell wouldn't talk **** about a guy who gave us 6 Championships.
