Dungy was fired after a 9-7 season in 2001, one that included the formerly dismal Bucs' fourth playoff appearance in five years under the coach.

Schottenheimer was fired from the Chargers after going an NFL-best 14-2 in the 2006 season.

Mularkey was fired after the Titans ended an eight-year postseason drought and won a playoff game for the first time since 2003.

Smith was fired by the Bears after a 10-6 season and an 81-63 record (with a Super Bowl appearance) in nine years.

Maybe it's time to add to this list...

The Schottenheimer firing was shocking at the time.

Steelers like to extend coaches when they have 2 years left on their contract.

Will be interesting to see if they let Tomlin go into 2021 as a lame duck coach.

Or maybe continue their trend of doing things out of character and cut ties with him now.

I think the last couple of years they have only been extending him 1 year at a time. This corresponds with the timing of Colbert doing the same thing. I am not sure its related, but when Colbert leaves I think MT will look at his options. New GM's like to bring in their own guy, MT may want to try new pastures, or just step away, or they hire Kahn and MT stays. I do think everyone is just riding this out till the decision is made on Ben.

One of many Snyder blunders. I loved seeing the Spurrier thing blow up in his face.

I forgot Schottenheimer coached the Foreskins. I was referring to him being fired from the Chargers after going 14-2.

Fire Tomlin or not doesn't really matter to me. He's still a quality coach.

The chances of the organization finding another coach and repeating what Tomlin helped this team accomplish over the years is very slim.

Some people won't appreciate Tomlin until he is gone.

I will appreciate him once he is gone......there are times when its wise to move on and this is one of those times. I am not a Tomlin hater, I know he has done well, but the pattern of how this team loses is also on him. Its time to throw another hat in the ring.

McCarthy and Pederson may not have had good records the year they were fired, but they certainly had winning records over time, including a SB Championship for both.

Believe it was more 2 it than just his Coaching. Believe I read somewhere that it was some off the field thing. Can't really remember.

I don't agree, or disagree with Firing Mike T....I believe there is more 2 it than that, but ....as 2 another coach doing what Tomlin did being very slim....Well..... Last 3 coachs have all won at least a Super Bowl . What makes U think next won't??

He and the GM didn't like each other. As I recall, Marty wanted to bring in his son as an assistant or coordinator and the GM disagreed.

So those 3 wins in 10 years get worse when you look at it.

2015- 1. gifted a win against a backup and we should’ve lost lol

2016- 2. Matt moore dolphins backup, then 3. Alex smith

    Yikes where is the progress?
