Way to wave the white flag tomlin. You try stupid 2 point conversion but go conservative on a fourth and one from 46 yard line. Brilliant. Two biggest flaws of team ruin another season

Eh, I probably would have went for it but I get the reasoning. Defense had come alive and forced three 3 and outs.

Would have at least tried drawing them offside with Ben's hard count instead of punt formation.

When you are down 28 to 0. You don’t go conservative when you actually have a chance. They had ball where we punted from in two plays

I felt like punting the ball was the right call. I stand by that.

I'm more pissed off about how ill prepared this team was. Pathetic effort literally from the first snap of the ball. Tomlin and Ben need to retire together.

He should have gone for it. We had all the momentum.

I thought it was the right call at the time, but I was wrong. I don't just mean because it didn't work. When I think about it, those defensive stops were a bit of a mirage. Trusting the defense there was a mistake, especially with Highsmith out. The Browns took advantage of Marsh all night.

I do but our D would have still blown it anyway.

There is such a thing as momentum and momentum stopper. And that was a momentum stopper.

It killed momentum. Even if we get stopped. Defense knows coach is still trying

It seemed to swing momentum for sure. But, what did the team show you tonight that made you think they could get 1 yard when they really needed it?

I would have punted. The Steelers can't run for 1 yard.. the defense showed they can not protect half a field... it was better to make them have to go the distance. Sadly they did.

Not executing the simple plays has plagued Mike Tomlin his whole career. Not doing it has cost him playoff berths, high seeds and super bowl appearances. Not being able to get 1 yard on a consistent basis. Not being prepared to play lack luster teams. Losing to lousy teams. Not solving batted balls from your quarterback. Not converting 2 point conversions at least once in a while. Not making the right call on replay. These are all the little things that turn into big things when it matters.

I understand the logic of punting. The D had held them to 3 and outs. You hope to pin them deep. I get that.

But, I’m sure Cleve fans and players were ecstatic that they punted. Their sphincters would get tight if the off came out for 4th and one. They’d feel the pressure.

If I had my starting Defense out there I would feel more confident.

    But you have Marsh?
    Spillane was on one leg.
    Was Highsmith out yet?

That Jaguar team would have beaten the Pats in the AFCCG if refs didn’t call the Jags TD fumble return down. Will Browns do the same?

The bigger problem was giving up a TD instead of a FG on the following drive, whether the Steelers punted or gave it up on 4th down.
They had to hold the Browns to a FG goal there.

    Incredibly stupid? Not necessarily.

    Incredibly gutless? Absolutely.

Me too. My first emotional reaction was to go for it. Berry damn near stuck the punt at their 1 yard line, but coverage didn't get there in time to down it. Then the defense went to crap on that drive. It's an easy call to second guess but if they go on fourth and don't get then they get filleted for that. No win situation.

Highsmith was gone before half time.
