Air it out. First play - play action with long bomb to Claypool. Ben throws it as far as he can. PI, incomplete, or big gain. Second play - same to Johnson. Screw the run and the short passes until the second half when they are tired from chasing our receivers all over the field.

    That'll confuse 'em.

Pretty sure the game plan and execution will be offensive to all Steeler fans.

I believe Ben was something like 20% on those passes before the loss streak, I know at one point he was 0-5 against Cincy (do not know the final stat). I think we are past to point of being offended, it is stick our head in the sand time.

John McKay, coaching Tampa was asked what he thought of the team's execution said, "I'm in favor of it."

Ben tried to throw it deep to Washington in the Cincy game and the ball was five yards short and almost intercepted. The only time Ben should be in shotgun is if it is 3rd and long.

PI, incomplete or big gain.... You left out a possible outcome: INT. If the Steelers get the opening KO and Ben throws an ugly pick on play one, a lot of sphincter will get tight. The D will think they have to win the game by themselves. Maybe the need to take the risk, but the idea reeks of desperation.

Yeah I dont understand it myself. There are plenty of formations and variations that you can utilize for a spread offense or largely 3 or 4 wr sets with a single back that doesn't involve trying to generate a burst from a standing still position. Getting under center makes the defense have to guess or play honest. It also allows for more of a hard count as well as letting the linemen get low and explode up into the block and push. AV setting in a crouch trying for a quick kick and to get set for a speed edge guy every play basically opens that side.

Heck at this point put Samuels back there on a wildcat formation, have Chase line up at TE and Ray Ray as the sidecar and run the option but only if Samuels works on his pitch all weekend.

I'd be in favor of having Dobbs run some wildcat. At least he offers the threat of a pass.

That was what I was thinking on Monday night too. It would have at least made the Bengals play a bit more honest. The plays Ben took under center were solid plays. So if they could put Dobbs in a couple of times threat to run or pass and they can't tee off on the formation.

Ben needs to be reminded he doesn't have to throw it 60 yds to get a big gain. Throw it sooner as Claypool is breaking open. The TD to Johnson the other night would of been a 50 or 60 yd TD if he hits him in stride from the 50 or their own 40.
Was it two years ago JU JU had an 86 yd play that started as a quick slant, key word is slant not a cross. Get him the ball when he is going downfield not running along the LOS.

The crossing routes are going to get some one killed when the defense has 8 or 9 in the box.

I believe it was 97 yards to JUJU.

I stand corrected I was too lazy to look it up. As I remember it Ben hit him just as he was splitting the defense and he was gone.
A 97 yd TD from a 7 or 8 yd completion. Some small adjustments in routes and timing and it could still work.

Ben can't throw long anymore, the offensive line can't protect, and the Steelers can't run the ball. The Steelers have one of the poorest OL's in the NFL and a QB that isn't mobile, that's not a good combo. This line hasn't been productive since Munchak left and the OC is a joke. A good OC would try and come up with something to get the most out of their offense but the Steelers just keep trying the same old very short quick passes that aren't there anymore. Maybe using a FB or Hback as a lead blocker would help the running game a bit. Putting Ben under center and being able to use some play action could help in the passing game too. Teams don't respect the Steelers running game and they are taking away the short passes because they know that Ben can't consistently throw long and even if he could won't have the time.

No it cant because Teams are just playing umbrella tight coverage.Teams are pressing and playing short zones ..The best way to beat it is go Diamond and 1 and force the D to 1 side of the field and use the screen game and quick hits to the single side our OC has no clue ...

Ben needs to stop throwing deep to Claypool into double coverage, when was the last time Chase actually caught it, Ben is just hoping for a DPI. Twice against the Bengals on second and 1 they decide to throw it, either the ball gets batted down or it's an incompletion .

Ben doesn't wait long enough for the receivers to get into their routes. How many times have we seen the pass get there before they even are looking back.

Right, Ben is afraid of getting hit, or feels he can't protect himself if he does because I think he is nursing multiple injuries. I think he is hurt bad enough that it is the cause of his recent slump. To me, he shouldn't be in there. Right now, he's no better than Rudolph or Hodges were last year.

But the bizarre part is that he is still getting hit. How many times on Monday did we see the camera go back from the overthrown, underground, caught pass to Ben picking himself off the ground looking like he got lit up.

The entire route tree needs revamped. Every team has adapted to our existing routes. Either run a completely new set or run fakes out of the existing formations.
