So it’s Tomlin’s fault that the defense has been decimated with injuries? It’s Tomlin’s fault that Ben is hyped up as “elite” but can’t win unless he’s backed up by a dominate defense?

Every team has injuries. And all things considered I don't think the defense has played that bad. We absolutely should have been able to put up more than 15 points on O. I blame management for putting all their eggs in the Ben basket. For Tomlin though I'm blaming for not having the wherewithal to realize that Finchtner is failing to develop our QB prospects thus making us completely screwed when Ben is done.
Seriously, notice how there is no team out there that covets our OC or DC.

I don’t disagree with much of what you’ve said. Your take doesn’t represent the consensus of the thread though. The consensus seems to be that Tomlin is a problem and needs to go. I see several people pushing this narrative that much if not all of Tomlin’s success is due to Ben as if Ben is above blame for the perceived underachieving since the last SB. Tomlin certainly isn’t above criticism and deserves his share but this thread is just hate.

Ben just isn’t as good as he potentially could have been and that’s something that we’ve all got to come to grips with. He showed the potential to be great his first 5 seasons on the league but hasn’t quite lived up to that potential since. I think that the organization based the offense around him. It kind of changed the complexion of the franchise. Things have stagnated since they became a pass first offense.

Tomlin is only 48 and has no losing seasons. Saving 3 or 4 losing seasons in a row, I think, unless he wants a change, he'll be the coach another 8-10 years minimum.

No, he shouldn't be fired. But I would ask him why it appears that Ben doesn't have to answer to anyone.

By the standards that many fans hold Tomlin to, nearly every coach in the NFL should be fired pretty much every year. When asked about who is better, and especially who is better that could potentially be available, the answers aren’t there.

Tomlin is going 12-4 at worst. He's taking his team to the playoffs for the first time in 3 yrs. The teams record improved in an all-in yr. Three weeks ago, this team was undefeated, and the board was all atwitter about Ben's MVP season, TJs DPOY season and Claypools ROY season. This was a team that was expected to be 9-7 or 10-6, and they met expectations by Thanksgiving. In a very difficult season, You do understand that they had to play 3 games in 13 days (or was it 13 games in 3 days?)

Unless Tomlin shoots DanRooney, robs a bank or pictures of him with goats turn up, there is not one chance in a billion that MT gets fired. And That seems incredibly reasonable.

It was 3 games in 12 days, and I already elaborated on this....EVERY team does this EVERY year! The Steelers have done this year after year after year...wtf did this 3 in 12 BS come from... It's nauseating!!!!!!!!!

The Bills are doing it now. They played SF (in Az) on Mon last week, home vs Pitt last Sunday, and they play in Den on Saturday. 3 games /12 days and two cross country trips. If that happened to The Stillers, it would the crime of the century. Nauseating? Yes. Lame Excuse? Absolutely.

Because it's not a fair question to ask. Nobody knew who Matt LeFleur is, but now his team is currently the #1 seed in the NFC. Every coach good and bad starts off as a nobody.

Look at Sean McDermot coach of the Bills when they hired him people were like who?

They're real coaches who brought in real coaches. MT is a cheerleader who hasn't brought in anybody.

Like it or not, Tomlin is not going anywhere. If anything, thank COVID 19 for that. To the detractors, as much as I am certain they may not like this, given Tomlin's likelihood of finishing 12-4 with many key pieces gone, it is essentially another "Get Out Of Jail For Free" card in a sense. Losing Devin Bush Jr. was one aspect. Losing him and Bud Dupree?! Unreal. That is not including losing Robert Spillane or Zach Banner either. Add the "Triple Threat Gauntlet" the team had just overcame and Tomlin's sear is more cold than the current reading of Vancouver Weather!

Now, 2023?!?! Assuming nothing has changed and Tomlin does not make it to the big dance by then?! That will be the earliest we hear of Tomlin's position as Steelers Coach in jeopardy.

Some media outlet took this it ran with it earlier, and I just keep seeing it from people...And it drives me crazy...It's so common ( and I DO agree, it shouldn't be )...

But when this narrative keeps getting tossed out like it's some sort of crime c'mon..........

Very good regular season coach until of course the end of year swoon when teams should be peaking we fade.

The Who else would we hire comment is so tired and weak. None of us work in the NFL we don’t know all the candidates. How many of us knew of TOMLIN when he was hired here??

All I know is pretty soon even if he goes 12-4 this year or 13-3 if the Browns game is meaningless we are losing the first playoff matchup. 3 playoff wins in 11 years is good enough for you guys? Man we look at success much differently.

Injuries have certainly hurt us I said when Bud went down that was game over and that isn’t TOMLINs fault but he still can’t out coach anyone or rally this team in adversity. Instead they put their heads down and quit basically. Indicative of the HC

I don’t think Tomlin should be fired, but you can’t compare winning percentages with Noll. The game was too different. Look at Bradshaws stats compared to Ben. One thing about Noll that you can’t say about Tomlin. Undefeated in SB’s.

12-4 after starting 11-0. That’s what we call a strong finish in the industry.

It's a very fair question to ask because the majority of the guys nobody has heard of don't pan out at all. By the way, LeFleur had a nice first regular season, and then watched helplessly as his healthy team was blown out by San Francisco for the second time last season. To match Tomlin he needs to win the SB this season. And IF LeFleur does that, he will have done it with McCarthy's players. Isn't that what some like to say about Tomlin? Well, LeFleur also inherited a perennial playoff team with a top QB. Good example. I guess if you're going to hold him to an easier standard he's a good example. :thumbs up: McDermott is doing well so far, but he still doesn't even have a playoff win on his resume. Let's give it some time.

But hey, I do have a great example of a guy that someone hired that nobody heard of that turned out OK. The guy won a SB in his 2nd season, returned to the SB in his 4th, and has never had a losing season. So yeah, sometimes those no name guys do work out.

I'm not the biggest Tomlin fan out there, but it's absolutely hilarious how when we're 11-0 it's all the players doing it, and when we lose a couple of games (with a whole slew of key injuries) it's because Tomlin can't coach. But that's how it works around here with some folks.
