Held the bengals to a goose egg on 3rd downs. 0-13. Continued the sack streak to 66 games, 3 shy of the record 69 held by Tampa Bay. :dfense:

Sutton gave a up a huge play but then made up for it with the strip fumble.

It’s safe to say our defense is pretty good

I enjoy watching them. Though, I did feel more confident last year. They are still very very good.

I think we will say bye to Bud and Hilton after the season. They will be too expensive (unless Hiltons injury is more serious than we know then his price may stay lower...He's already making over 3 million a year).

Cam Sutton will be a value resign and Highsmith will fill in.

That was his 3rd straight game with a forced fumble.

Best defence in the game. Of course some will compare them to all-time great Steeler defences and alltime NFL defences....makes em feel smart. Fact is, right now, Steelers defence us the best in the game.

That was awesome to see, especially considering that earlier in the year, stopping 3rd down conversions was one of the Steelers' worst stats. Let's hope they keep it up :steelflag:

Since "defence" is a British spelling of "defense", I would say they are pretty good old chap:drinks:

Unless you are painting de-fence, in which case, de-fence must first be sanded or wire brushed or de-paint will fall off de-fence.

Run defense needs cleaned up. Alualu was back and I still felt like we gave up too much at times. I think we are starting to realize just how much we miss Devin Bush.

It's hard to criticize after a dominating performance. But we have the Ravens coming up again in a couple of weeks. We can't afford to give up the rushing yards we gave up in the first meeting and expect to win.

Ravens are pretty banged up, I’m actually not too worried about them. Jags seem scarier lol

Any game against the Jags worries me. For whatever reason we always seem to struggle with them. James Robinson has been a beast. In a weird way this will be a good test for the Steelers.

If we get pressure on QB we are going to be tough to deal with. Our secondary
is not the greatest but if we can get that pressure we can go along way.

Think of last year and how futile our offense was. Now think of how often our defense was on the field. Made me go look at average opponent plays per game:

2020: 62.8 opponent plays per game

    2019: 64.4

Thought for sure I would see a larger gap.

It was larger earlier in the season, but that has changed with opponents having more success running and the Steelers' running game disappearing the last few games.

That is one reason the straight statistical comparisons of Bush and Spillane don't work. There are more tackles to be had because the opposition is running more plays of late. The other issue is Spillane is getting way too many of his tackles after significant gains. It's not as if the guy is terrible. It's that people aren't quite understanding just how much this defense misses Bush.

The all-time record belongs to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who recorded 69 consecutive games with a sack between 1999 and 2003. Mike Tomlin was with the Buccaneers for the final three years of that stretch.

In the offseason, a lot of people claimed the defense would regress, not getting as many turnovers, since takeaways can fluctuate wildly year to year. They are on pace for 30 takeaways, which I guess is quite a bit less than last year (38), but still impressive.

Our defense and passing game is solid. We need to get the running game right.
