He went against the grain with his reasoning, and it worked out. But the safe percentage play was a FG attempt.

He was still a no brainer head coach at crucial moments. Kinda like MT.

True however, he didn't fumble, Ernest Byner did.

Dude, Tomlin wanted to end the game there. It had nothing to do with Boz misses. Boz hit a 59 yarder for god sakes and a 43 yarder. He tried to close it out, it didnt work. Nothing else to complain about.

Some crucial moments were on him. Some were beyond his control. He did make turtle ball popular even before Cowher did.

I get the call. A missed FG is a live ball, bad things can happen. I just hate our execution strategy on these short yardage runs. Put a FB in, go between the G's and if not there you can try and bounce it outside. Both calls today were very impractical and fooled no one.

While Tomlin bears the brunt no doubt, this was a complete failure by all of his coordinators.

Fichtner's plan of running into a brick wall early, to Butler forgetting the blitz until late in the 4th, to Danny Smith all out embarrassing himself are the stories.

We had way too many conventional runs up the middle early. With Lee, LVE and Kaylin Smith, they actually have great LBs. We had to get more creative with our run game, and we didn't. Where was the PA with throws up the seams? Non existent.

I didn't care if we played Gilbert, Cooper Rush or DiNucci, we had to come out blitzing. Where's the sense in letting someone stand back there and find holes in our leaky secondary? Only succeeded when we started blitzing.

Smith seemed to make no adjustment in Dallas getting pressure on our kicks. I don't know what happened on our kickoff from the 50 that was perfectly kicked, albeit it should not have been returned. How we let that guy go right up the near sideline I don't get. We were caught completely off guard on the trick return.

    Complete fail on the coordinators.

I actually thought Tomlin took control late in the 4th. Great call to go for the FG when were down by 4. Bring the blitz pressure. The call to go for it on 4th and 1 was the correct call, although I didn't like the play call.

We can't play and coach the way we did today and expect to win, even against the Bengals and Jags coming up.

$$$ Post. Yes. Tomlin would even say that he ultimately is responsible but that aside ..I think Butler has been outcoached badly these past two games.

I know the players have to be prepared and have to execute but scheme wise I think Butler did a poor job.

My only gripe with Tomlin is the assistant coaches he keeps around him. Neither Butler nor Fichtner in my opinion are worth keeping around. Tomlin is one of the best coaches in the league and his record speaks for itself. How many coaches in this league have never been to one Superbowl let alone two? He won one and lost one. Problem is I expect the STeelers to go to the superbowl and win every year. Unrealistic expectations but I'm a fan. This year he is doing a very good job. I just wish we had better assistant coaches. Just my opinion.

I actually loved the decision. I just hated the playcall. If we jam it up the gut or throw a quick one, we get the first and its over.

And what’s his record in the playoffs last ten years? Team is catching a lot of breaks this year. They play flat like that in a playoff game it’s 1 and done.

Does he have his short comings? Yes. But let’s be honest, we could do a hell of a lot worse. 14 is it now? Without a losing record is a hell of a accomplishment

I'm aware of his problems in playoffs. However he's still won as many superbowls as Cowher has. When he became head coach those players became his players not Cowher's. I've been very critical of Tomlin over the years but have come to realize that he has done a pretty good job fielding winning teams. I think if he could do a better job choosing assistant coaches we would have won a lot more. Again just my opinion

Well said. Only part I disagree with 100% is the Cowhers players part. He inherited a SB caliber team drafted groomed and coached by Bill. He still won the big one so he certainly should get some credit but since it’s been his show and players the results speak for themselves. Maybe this year changes that narrative.

He was, about 1/2 the league would love to have a coach who consistently got them to the playoffs.

    Yep.

Like I said in the GameDay Thread, complete Coaching Failure by the big three. Keith finds more ways to amaze people with his incompetence. Randy is beyond oblivious at this point for he is truly inept. How Randy keeps one upping himself in asinine decisions is something I have not the foggiest.

    Truly unreal!!

Ben better get half of Fitchner’s paycheck at the end of the season. It amazes me how these broadcasters are calling him a “fine offensive coordinator”. I would simply call him a “truly offensive coordinator”.

You state truly Offensive Play Calling. Randy is too Offensive to be Offensive to Play Call!! :roflmao:
