4th and 1 + Conner = Fail

Conner cannot make a 4th and 1 conversion with the game on the line! We need a big back in the draft!

 

The design of the play was questionable anyways. Not sure why being up 8 was not an acceptable option.

 

Here's what I don't get. They have 3 timeouts. Go up to the line, let it run down to a second, and call a timeout.

Then call a sneak or something in the middle. The whole sequence reminded of the Steelers/Colts playoff game in 05.

 

That play had no chance before Conner even got the ball, AV wasn't ready, Hawkins got blown up, Decastro had his feet tried up 2nd time that drive an Mac picked the wrong guy to block. That pulled guard with TE right behind is a Steelers bread and butter play but hasn't worked since Munch left. They should have treated it like a goaline play and had Conner go over the top.

 

PASS the ball baby.

Romo brought up a good point. The Cowboys were blocking or came close to blocking every kick. But why did it have to be such a vanilla play?

 

Trying to be a good team player here, we had protection issues

 

You had it right up until the part about the play not working since Muchack left. It has worked plenty the last two seasons, but they executed it horribly on that play. Conner had no chance.

They need to kick the field goal. And if Danny Smith can't figure out how to block for it and not allow the Cowboys to block it, he needs to be fired.

 

This maybe the first time i have seen The Steelers not be able to adjust to kick a chip shot field goal. I would have still tried the fg.

 

Don't forget. We need him to Beat off Defenders!

That is totally on the players. Utter lack of execution and performance by the entire Offensive Line all day. Unacceptable.

Don't look now but your O-line cannot run block. See their run grades below. Villanueva has the only passing grade and it is a "D." Conner is fine, any RB is fine, if and only if the O-line can run block. Pouncey is grey about the muzzle and far from the best center. He is closer to the worst.

 

we should run split backs or put a jumbo guy in at FB ..We should also get under center and run more PA ..We can also run the T i explained it some in another thread last week , anyway the short version 3 different guys to choose from to give or pitch or pass to you can run some really funky plays out of it ....Our OC has probably never heard of the formation if he has he probably thinks its illegal..

Being concerned about a possible kick-block-return is real narrow reasoning to forego a FG attempt. As others have said, if Tomlin has that little faith in Danny Smith's ability to shore up coverage, then Danny Smith needs to be gone.

 

i agree such a vanilla play.... why could we atleast run chase across to make them think on misdirection.....carbon copy of the ratbirds game

They are paying a FB $3 1/4 million this year and refuse to use him. Doesn't make any sense.

 

He wasn't flashy but he was one hard nosed m effer.

 

I'm not a fan of Conner anytime I can see his#. He often turns his pads to the sidelines and once he does that he tries to out run people and he simply does not have the wheels for that.

He is best between the tackles. Going north and south he is a bowling ball. East and west he is a bowling pin.
