This is one of those front office head scratches. Just strange

Why didn’t they just leave him on IR? He was signed through the end of next season for peanuts. I don’t get this but they must have their reasons

Feel bad for him, he was thrilled to be signed by his home town team

I'm guessing it was to give him a chance to latch onto another team. At first glance this might seem stupid as it gives another team a chance to improve but long term it makes sense. Players notice when a team does it's players a solid, which increases our chances of resigning our players or getting a future free agent.

Didn’t think of it like that. He signed for backup money though and surely didn’t expect to be a starter. Why bother signing him in the first place? He was happy to be in the Burgh and is a really good depth piece that can play C / G

It’s not a huge loss by any means given Dotson's emergence, if it was mutually agreed with the player like you say then happy days. Hope he finds another team and earns some $$

I think the reality is that the Steelers view Dotson as the better player and feel good enough about Hassenauer to make him expendable. Feel for the guy, but business is business. Best of luck to him.

Don't they have an expanded roster this year?

I would have liked to have kept him around in case anyone gets hurt... lots of season to go...

Can they get him back on the PS?

Seems like he’s still hurt. Guy never had a chance here because of the injury.

That is all I can figure at this point. I know salary for the entire year is guaranteed (I think at week 10) so this may save them a few bucks, though it has been noted his contract was peanuts. Perhaps if he is not picked up they offer him P/s, which saves them money. Strange season, a lot of these moves around the league.

    Quit making stuff up.

It didn’t say injury settlement and they just can’t release an injured player. Plus, he was activated Wednesday.

The problem is they need more than one reserve who can play guard. This move does not make sense.

Maybe. But first he had to be released. Then if no one signs him he can to ps.

With 11 games plus postseason left I can’t make much sense of it either, especially when you factor in Decastros recent injury issues.

Dotson is their only serviceable backup guard now unless I’m forgetting somebody

This really puts a lot of faith in J.C. Hassenauer, who is now locked in as Pouncey's top backup and possibly the next man up after Dotson at guard.

Good talent, but a 'China Doll'. If you are not on the field it matters little what you can do when you are. Think Kendrell Bell. Top talent when playing. Empty roster spot the rest of the time.

What the hell are you rambling about old man. I said he’s still hurt because he wasn’t practicing this week nothing about an injury settlement. Said he got released without ever getting a real shot here because he’s been hurt all year. Reading is fundamental

All this tells me is that J.C. Hassenauer must have improved to such a point that Stephen must have been made expendable. Never mind that, J.C. is much cheaper and younger the same. It will be interesting to see what the Steelers do moving forward for the rest of the Offensive Line.

Offensive Tackle would still be my top priority but I can still see the Interior Offensive Line being picked high here. Not Round 1 but Rounds 2 or 3 depending on the board.

I would agree. I feel the same way but not because of Mason. That said, what Art Rooney II will say at the end of the Season in regards to the QB Room will be critical.

This may be just one of those 'we do this now'moves with plans of bringing him back next week. Perhaps not, just seems like there is a lot of this type of juggling this year with the expanded PS, that includes long playing vets. They had to make certain moves, and seemed to want to get more more D help with all the injuries. I guess we will see, but would not be surprised to see him back next week, or at the very least to the PS if no one else signs him.

Ben is the top free agent quarterback in 2022.

    Brady

He is so immobile now that he will be beaten up within the next 1-2 years. Ben isn’t a freak like Brady.
