Congratulations to Mike Tomlin for surpassing Tony Dungy (another Steeler) as the all-time winningest minority coach. Thanks to the Rooney family for always being a leader. I am proud to be in the Steeler Nation!!!

One more win and he'll have another non-losing season.
All of those who say he only wins because of Ben, who also endlessly compare him to the Hoody, can now see how much of the Hoody's record was due to Brady. Fun fact- Bellicheck without Brady has 2 winning season out of 8. And that's with capable starting qb's like Kozar, Testeverde, and Newton, who was NFL MVP only 5 years ago.
Truth be told, every person on this board secretly (or loudly) swore when the Patriots got Newton for damn near nothing.

Why categorize him? That's like saying so and so is the winningest coach with a pimple on his left butt cheek. Stupid.

Congrats on the win. But I don't like how the media spends things based on ethnicticities

Nice to know but I doubt seriously that MT (or Tony Dungy) gives a flying fig about a stat like this. Give him props or jeers as a person and head coach, not a compartmentalized factoid. This is equivalent to putting an asterisk next to his name. I believe even Dr. MLK would agree.

The NFL We strive for a world in which we no longer see color and instead look at people based on their merit. IT TAKES ALL OF US

Also the NFL - look how many games the black guy won!

Congratulations coach but seems like a silly thing to still be keeping track of.... but you just know it he makes it to Canton it will say it right under his bust.

Yeah. Would be nice if we get to the "color blind" point in this country for stories like this. I think the NFL and football fans are way ahead of the rest of the country on that score.

Have to admit Tomlin is getting better at his job. Lots of OJT paying off.

    Hey Everyone.

Please do not take this the wrong way. I am not knocking anyone here and I am sure it was posted with the best of intentions. However, here in big part, is the problem with the nature of this post; especially given the state of affairs in today’s world. AGAIN, I am not bashing on anyone here.

This has to stop if we are going to truly achieve equality amongst all within the Human Race.

    PROBLEM

He/She was first this, the first that, etc. It gives the impression that when someone other than a Caucasian (usually male) accomplishes something it is an earth-shattering event. That the person(s) are accomplishing things that were never dreamed possible of. And in part that may be true. However we are now in the Year 2020 not 1720, 1820 or 1920. This compliment is more of a stereotype than anything else.

I have seen this in education working my entire career in two pre-dominantly African-American school districts. I remember one event. It was so embarrassing IMO due to the notoriety that it received. Here it is:

An elementary school within this Urban School District had nearly 90% of its students pass a State Mathematics Assessment. Oh my goodness! You would have thought that we landed someone on Mars! It made front page of the local newspaper. The Secretary of Education for the Country made a guest appearance to the city and that school. Non-alcoholic bubbly grape cider was being uncorked at the Board of Education. It was the big talk within the circle of those in Power at the Board of Education.

    INTERPRETATION

In so many words: “See, if THEY can do it then so can anyone”. Disgusting, as I say around here. “Who are THEY”, I asked rhetorically. Knowing good and well as to who the comments were being directed at (African-American Students). Embarrassing I tell you. Many of my African-American colleagues were infuriated for the unwarranted attention that it garnered. Again, the way that it was reported gave the impression that these children were from a totally different species beyond the Human Race. I just bowed my head in utter disgrace.

Here is the kicker. It came to surface later that the School’s Administration was found guilty of “doctoring” the answer sheets and then there was an investigation launched for a cheating scandal. A double whammy. What a disgrace all the way around.

If it makes anyone feel any better, I also taught Mathematics within that School District. I worked with Special Needs Students. I taught Mathematics through sports and athletics. In the end over 85% of my students did pass that same assessment, the right way (smile).

Just like Doug Williams will always be known as the first black QB to win the Super Bowl, no big deal.

It's a big deal for some. Like having Pittsburgh roots & being badass is for some.

    Hey Roonatic.

I guess. Whatever some feel that they need to “hang their hats on”.

Hypothetical Question: Is a Pittsburgh badass more badass than say.... a New York badass or a New Hampshire badass?

I would bet that New Hampshire has some badasses too (smile).

In a perfect world, we would just recognize someone for their ability and accomplishments..... however, this is not a perfect world... We live in a world of discrimination and imposed inferiority and as long as that's the case, distinguishing this accomplishment among others is very important and a start in recognizing total equality

Agreed. Growing up in the 70's there were pretty much no black head coaches not named Eddie Robinson. I do have to hand it to Al Davis. Flores and Shell being hired opened doors. Kudos to Tomlin for taking his opportunity and running with it.
