Johnson hands are iffy, but he's their best WR in the open field

DJ is clearly the goto target for Ben when he’s healthy. I’m guessing his hamstring and back were causing him some problems yesterday.

He had 16 targets, about 80 yards and 2 TD’s a week ago. The game script will probably change from week to week depending on what Ben see’s defenses doing. It’s great that we have 3 very good options for him to choose from. Washington too but he definitely seems like the low man on the totem pole.

Chase Claypool is definitely a problem for opposing NFL DBs and with his 7th Total Touchdown against Baltimore, he has put the entire AFC North on notice. After being limited against Malcolm Butler, I was curious to see how he would fare against that three headed monster Baltimore has. He did well; 5 catches on 9 targets for 42 yards and a Receiving Touchdown. Yes, he did have the fumble but again, Marcus Peters can be a Number One Corner for many NFL teams. Ironically enough, that Touchdown he scored was against Peters the same.

However, even beyond that game, Chase is greatly outperforming his draft stock. For that matter, it really is interesting to compare the first three Receivers to Chase at this point. Here are their stats vs. Chase.

    Henry Ruggs III:

    10 Catches

    220 Yards

    5 First Downs

    1 Receiving Touchdown

    Longest Reception: 72 Yards

    4 Rush Attempts

    22 Rushing Yards

    0 Touchdowns

    Jerry Jeudy:

    23 receptions

    359 Yards

    1 Receiving Touchdown

    18 First Downs

    Longest Reception: 48 Yards

*** No Rushing Data Available ***

    CeeDee Lamb:

    40 Receptions

    524 Yards

    2 Receiving Touchdowns

    26 First Downs

    Longest Reception: 43 Yards

    5 Rushing Attempts

    33 Rushing Yards

    1 Rushing Touchdown

Now, let us compare that to Chase shall we?!

    Chase Claypool:

    23 Receptions

    375 Yards

    5 Receiving Touchdowns

    14 First Downs

    Longest Reception: 84 Yards

    6 Rushing Attempts

    21 Rushing Yards

    2 Rushing Touchdowns

In comparison to Henry Ruggs III, I think Claypool can hold his own. In comparison to both CeeDee and Jerry though, things get dicey. Both have far superior First Down Totals and better Receiving Yards as well. What seperates the two from Chase though is the amount of Receiving Touchdowns each has. By himself, Chase has more Receiving Touchdowns that both Lamb and Jeudy. For that matter, Chase has just as many Receiving Touchdowns as all three put together. Where Claypool starts to pull away though is Total Touchdowns.

Chase Claypool has more Total Touchdowns (7) to the Big Three from the 2020 Draft Class (5). With all that said, is Chase Claypool the best Wide Receiver from the 2020 Draft?! Way too early to tell but the dividends are paying off more so for Pittsburgh than they would be for the likes of Las Vegas, Denver and Dallas put together.

And toe, he’s the walking wounded. His slight size may be his undoing.

Hello my friend, a question for you. Does the town Chase Claypool came from make a big deal out of it???? Reason I ask, a Penguin player (I know, tons of Canadian Hockey players) was from a small place in Canada and every time he scored they would rev up a motorcycle inside a local bar in the town.

PS: I know Canada is big and you could be on other side of Chases home town.

He grew up about an hour away from where I live. My brother-in-law, who coaches football out in that area, says a lot of the kids have become Steelers fans because of Claypool. He's a big deal out in Abbotsford and the surrounding towns.

He gets some attention out in the bigger cities but most people are Seahawks fans.
