True, every D has a weakness and when recognized, it is exploited. Part of the game.

Spillane balled out today. Yeah I know he made some mistakes and got washed out in some run plays but I don't have many concerns about him.

Spillane made some crucial plays today but I think you are all giving him way too much credit. Not many nfl LB's miss that pick 6. It was a horrible throw and a gift but I'm glad he was the recipient. Clearly Bmore's game plan was to go after Spillane and he didn't embarrass him self.

BUT lets be honest... we gave up 265 yards on the ground and a large part of that was Spillane. If a blocker got past the line Spillane was eaten up with ease. They were running up the middle on us with ease and when that wasn't happening they were running college sweeps and options for 5-10 yards over and over again. Most NFL LB's can blow those plays up. He was not able to get to the outside. This is where his speed issues were glaring. You typically don't start an ILB in the NFL that can't get to the sideline. Im really surprised the titans did not use this same game plan last week.

In coverage their TE ran by him like he was standing still. He seems to understand zones which is good but having Spillane cover most TE's is asking for trouble. That's a miss match that most good NFL QB's would easily exploit. Spillane is good enough as a back up...but he's not good. He's clearly not a starter IMO and a good QB will eat us alive with that kind of play in the middle. I'm not going to only blame Spillane for the run defense because it seemed like our d-line was having a rough go of it as well but to me it looked like the Raven's entire game plan was to go after him and our safeties and it worked for the most part. Luckily their QB is trash when asked to throw the ball.

He still had 11 tackles, and a fumble recovery, along with a pick six.

I hope it doesn't, he's a great tackler. I noticed a couple plays where he was left in the dust by the RB, which raised my concern. He played better than I expected overall though(not even counting the pick 6).

It's too easy to place a lot of blame on Spillane for their overall rushing performance. Their entire offense is built to run the ball. I'm sure there were plays where he was out of his element, but today was also his second start. They also lost Alualu early and Hilton was unavailable. I don't know what the future holds for Robert Spillane but, he has been more than an adequate fill in for Devin Bush.

I dont know how much speed he is missing. He caught up to the ravens running back and almost tripped him up.

Had Vince laid out he bats that TD down... I know the whole to jump or not to jump scenario at times but he was pretty damn close on that route. A mismatch once again but VW was there.

I do not mind Williamson but why though?! Why not Jarrad Davis?! Either way, this does confirm something else.

UG3 is likely not returning this season.

There were reports of that two weeks ago. Not sure what has happened since. For that matter, did a quick check on Pro Football Reference. Turns out Davis' snap count has increased considerably.

Doubt that Matt Patricia trades him now.

if this Williamson talk is real that means UGIII is done, back injury may mean spine issues which is problematic

Ok. Thanks for the info. I’m not sure how much Williamson helps us other than depth. I’d rather have someone that is a solid starter that brings more to the table than Spillane.

All I can gather is that UG3s back injury might be worse than initially thought. Keep in mind that a back injury prematurely ended his Rookie Season. Might be the case again.

    Yep.

That is what I said as well. Not the spinal issues though. Regarding the back injury again, I wonder if it is more serious than initially thought.

Either way, book ILB as an early need in 2021. Vince is not going to last forever and Bush will soon need a running mate.
