NFL.com has us at #2 in power rankings this week, behind the Chiefs. Can a case actually be made for that?

    #2?

I love the love from ESPN, but I don't even WANT to be put up there. Not yet. We're easily top 10. But to put us over the Titans and Ravens right now seems a little presumptuous.

Now, get to 7-0 and I'll be sold. Get to 7-0 and I'll be petitioning for us having a candidate for Coach of the Year. Yeah, I said it. CoTY. Tomlin. Yes. Should I have told some of you to sit down before dropping that one on you? Stand up. Dust yourselves off. You're not dreaming.

Power rankings are pretty irrelevant. More damaging than anything in my opinion. Stokes ego's and takes focus away.

I'd rather they be down played.

    NFL.com- #2
    CBS.Sports- #1
    SI- #2
    ESPN- #3
All rank us behind KC except CBS. ESPN also has us behind Seattle.

And FYI, the Titans ans Ravens are 4-5 in all 4.

Power Rankings for me are irrelevant. Not because they are uninteresting in terms of generating discussion. They are irrelevant because they are meaningless.

As are most stats early in a season, and even records to be quite honest. But this is about discussion. That's the whole point of bringing up such a subjective topic. I asked if a case could be made for #2.

    Most.

I love how I reiterate this is about the discussion of the legitimacy of our ranking and you remain fixated on irrelevant stats.

Rankings are irrelevant the same. Not my point either. You said most. That could be a combination of anything.

If you want my answer on our ranking however, I rank the Steelers 1. It is the same meaning that any major Sports Media outlet ranks. It means...

Seen time and time again high rank teams that don’t make the super bowl

I apologize. I thought we were here for discussion. Thanks for clearing that up with your pointless repetition. Now, after you've said the same thing half a dozen times, I finally see what you mean. TTF, shut down the boards. There's nothing to discuss here, per AQL.

Weekly power rankings are pretty stupid. At least when I play armchair GM I can go back and say see here look I'm smarter than all of you and Steelers management. Your stupid, I'm smart. When it's all said and done nobody is going see here I told you in Week 7 we weren't the 2nd best team. Things change so it's pointless. We are the 2nd best team in Week 7 yay!! Who cares.

The last time that topic was discussed here the season didn't turn out too well for the ol' ball coach.

Steelers have one of the most complete teams. Seahawks are skewed towards Wilson and offense. The Seahawks D blows chunks. Ravens and Chiefs are good, but Steelers have slightly better D's.... Chiefs have a better O than Steelers right now. Ravens and Steelers are a draw on O. Too damn early to tell....lots of football left to be played.

Talking heads are jumping on the Steelers bandwagon big time. The same ‘experts’ that wrote them off all off season. Some of these guys are stealing a living.

offense ranked #4 averaging 32 points a game

defense ranked #3 giving up 18 points a game

    =pretty good stuff

to me these stats are worth following, "power rankings" are kind of subjective, having said that I was surprised to see our ranking, CBS had us best team in the league, not used to this,
but our team is well balanced and I think our depth chart is solid, Bush injury is a set back but I like what I am seeing from Spillane, and backing him up is UG III and hybrid Allen, hopefully Hilton can be 100% soon

Wow! If we keep it up we’ll have a high enough BCS ranking to get into a great bowl game!

They're the BCS rankings of pro football lol basing it off of beating other teams, style points, and the "eye test"..... so yeah, exactly. Meaningless.

    Yep.

That said, I am happy that the team is being praised by the national media. Pittsburgh has not had this much National Sports Media Fanfare in some time. That said, at the end of the day, opinionated rankings are just that; opinions.
