Anyone know how to calculate the Pirates’ tragic number?

As of this moment they have the worst record in baseball, with the Rangers next up. There is some combination of Pirate losses and Rangers wins that would ensure that the Pirates finish last and get the first pick in the draft, aka the Kumar Rocker Sweepstakes. It would be typical if they would suck, but not quite enough to do themselves the most good.
Actually, if they picked second and took Al Leiter’s son, who also pitches for Vanderbilt, I would not be too upset.

As of this moment, the Pirates have 40 losses, so their best possible record would be 20-40.
The Rangers have 20 wins, so their WORST possible record would be 20-40. The Pirates have clinched a tie for first draft choice! It could come down to a coin toss perhaps, which would be just about the most exciting thing this season.

Rangers have 21 wins. My beloved BUCS can only win 20.

Congrats Mr. Ahole Nutting on another fine season you piece of........

Do you think he gave orders to the manager to lose? Some of those game day rosters were just bizarre. Not sure if they were trying to see what they had or tanking on purpose

Some fans hope their teams tank so they can get a top draft pick. Pirates will get top draft pick, develop him and then ask him to play for league minimum. Then he becomes good and Bob can't deal with him anymore because he'll cost too much.
