no problem, maybe you should look at some of the other responses as well, they ooooze with off field opinion. i made it clear in the original post that i didn’t want to talk about that stuff, just his play on the field. try to be a objective editor.

Yeah... both sides of these arguments have accused me of not being objective because neither like having their political expression being shut down. I'll tell you want I've said to others. If you want to complain about moderating, take it up via PM to a Mod. Otherwise shut up.

Nothing I said in my thread was political. Steelers are in the middle of controversy again. Steelers forum can pretend like it doesn't exist but it does. Go on Twitter.

Oh please. Kaepernick was awful in 2015 and then led the 49ers to 11 straight losses before getting benched for Gabbert.. he had a couple early good years, similar to RG3, then it all came undone. They both have the same body type and play style, which doesn't translate to a long NFL career.

There could be a number of other reasons why they haven't signed him.

    1. Money? Can they afford?
    2. Style? Seems like they could use another pass defender instead of a run stuffing specialist after week 1's performance
    3. Fit with the locker room/team (already discussed)
    4. Is it worth it to bring in an unknown to start at this point in the season?
    5. Stats. You brought up his stats from last year but failed to mention the rest of them. He had a fantastic run stuffing year and poor pass pro year, but do the stats tell all? I mean you have to realize that based on those same metrics 22 year old Terrell Edmunds statistically out performed Reid in every season aside from last year during his (often called terrible) 2019 campaign... was last year an anomaly for Reid? Does this mean that Edmunds projects to be a similar, if not already superior, player to Reid?

In all likelihood the Steelers haven't signed Reid because they don't believe that he is an upgrade on what they already have in Edmunds. They have similar strengths and weaknesses and Edmunds is 23 and has the chance to improve while Reid is 28 and has had one "more relevant" statistical year than Edmunds has in his career, including an alternate selection to the pro bowl in his rookie year (his only Pro Bowl season). I don't claim to know anything about what the Steelers are thinking, but that's my best guess.. or at least how I would view it if I were them.

Character and off field issues factor into choosing to hire or not.

Nelson had a bad night, but he did just fine in man coverage last year.

Edmunds is the whipping boy because he was a first-round pick and he sucks.

I'm not happy that the Steelers wasted a first-round pick on a guy who never should have been taken above the third round, especially because he is a lousy player.

It also makes it worse that they could have had Leonard.

He is without a job because he wants to much money for his services.... same goes for Kap. He wants to be paid like a starter even though he would be a backup.

Why can’t it be both? If Reid is a better player than Edmunds then appreciate the player and ignore the message if it bothers you. I really don’t see how speaking out about injustice negatively impacts play.
If your argument was correct about the deleterious impact on play from caring about social justice, then Lebron James wouldn’t be the best basketball player in the world.

Too late. Too many other people already denigrated Reid for his social positions. Politics was introduce early by the anti-social justice crowd.

i don’t dispute any points you make, i started this to discuss an available player for position i think we need to improve. i notes on the original post that i understand the stigma with him but as a player what can he bring? from there the crazies started into their political trashing and then i ended up getting the flag for a personal foul and told to shut up.

He is simply not that good anymore..AT one time he was a top 5 guy or at least solid top 5 potential,I am not sure what happened to him ? Mybe the money.maybe the passion for the game .maybe ego I could go on and on ,but the point is he is not who he used to be on the field so if on the cheap and something tells you that you know the problem and have multiple fixes then hey why not consider it..

Anything less would be a hard pass from me...

Like Dupree was for his first four years. If Terrell turns it around I hope you are able to eat crow. Granted it's looking like a big if.

Both players started out raw & inexperienced at their position with incredible athletic ability but no positional awareness.

I'm going to apologize for one thing, and that's telling you to keep your political views out of it without also quoting someone on the other side of this political/social debate. I should have done that, but I was already annoyed at you because when I said that Reid's play has dropped off, you immediately jumped on me and fired back an accusatory question about me evaluating him based on his social justice stance, not his play. However, I do not apologize for telling you to shut up with your complaint about moderating. We mods are not paid workers, we're Steeler fans trying to enjoy the discussions the same as everyone else, with the added responsibility of trying to keep things from going off the rails. We have our own views on what's going on, but we try (sometimes not fully successfully) to squelch our own views even if we're really pissed at what someone else said. People on BOTH sides of this issue are driving us crazy because they won't stop pushing their political views. Every time we have thread that delve into this territory, people can't help themselves but to escalate their arguments that quickly go away from football.

So. I'm going to say this for the benefit of everyone: A few years ago when the original anthem protests started, things did go off the rails. There were ugly arguments and some posters got banned. We're NOT going there again. People on BOTH sides need to keep their political views to themselves.
