Not able to extend Heyward?

    That 5 years is an infinite difference. Nobody is giving big contracts to 31 year old linemen. Heyward has a year left on his contract. Next year the market for him will be relatively small. Steelers best bet is to wait and see what he has in the tank this year.

    The market may be challenging for him in terms of years and up front money, but he can command a pretty lucrative shorter term deal.

    Yes. And at that point I believe the Steelers can/will match a market value, low guarantee contract. But not the opposite now.

    no way Heyward gets chris jones money from us, especially with TJ Watt's extension looming... But I do believe they will make him an offer slightly higher than his current deal that will still make him feel appreciated and make him ignore much more lucrative offers from other teams..... he knows what's being built on this defense and will want to be a big part of a super bowl contender
