Fortunately, I think his roll has been reduced with Austin being added to the mix. Just a hunch.

I sure hope so! The reason Troy was so legendary was not just his style of play but Dick LeBeau let him be the best player Troy could be by staying out of his way in terms of schematics. I do not believe that Butler is so willing.

I do agree however that Terryl Austin would vouch for Minkah to be like Troy.... albeit playing in the deep end.

Re guarantees the Steelers MO has already shifted, look at Joe Hadens contract for example, I know it’s not on the scale that Watt will need but the guaranteed money is much higher than anything they have done before with a non QB.

They will lose their best players if they don’t pay the going rate and they know it.

30 millions might be a bit much. I think you'll be look at a Myles Garrett type money deal for comparison.

But, you be insane to let this guy walk.

Every time the $$$$ come out of my wallet for son I think how nice it must be for the parents of the Watt kiddies. Sure the hell don't need parents money and they will have such a lovely nursing home.

They will offer him the 5th year option next season and then work out a deal hopefully, back load it as was stated.

If a deal can't be worked out they can Franchise him the following season. At least he will be worth the tag...

Ben is off the books in 2022 unless they extend.

Watt will be paid as he should be.

Also I don't believe they were in heavy contract talks with the one year wonder. They just had no option hence the franchise tag.

Well that didn't take long and we haven't even played the 1st game. Should have at least waited until after the Giants game and I would have given it a green check mark.

I would hold back this generational talent crap and money especially for a team barely getting to .500 and missing the playoffs. If we're not getting to the playoffs, why pay so much for that? Pay what we can and move on as there are other players helping us get to 8-8. Ben's contract should have been a learning point on how it impacts getting other contracts done or perhaps losing Gravedigger as an example. NFL revenue is decreasing and so is ratings so the windfall for contract money is or will be at an end soon. My opinion.

We will be paying Ben on an extension if the salary cap goes down. TJ will have lots of guaranteed Steeler money.

The cap is going down next year, but it was forecast to explode under new TV deals that now are in jeopardy.

i would have been more optimistic but with Ben wanting to play a bunch more years, it'll be tough. Will he accept a lesser amount to help with the cap once his current deal is over?? They will have to make Watt's contract a longer term deal imo, additional years on a contract seems to be regarded higher than a 3-4 year deal with higher pay just from what the players say in the media. I could be wrong.

Haden, AV, Pouncey, VW98 and Dupree should lighten the load in a year or two, but with the shrinking cap (expected) it'll still be tough.

I don't know why longer NFL contracts haven't been more popular (pre-pandemic).

The Steelers will have three of their tackles be free agents after the season, Feiler, Banner, and AV.

If the season started today. Let’s see who gets extended. They will not go into the offseason without two starting tackles signed. It’s not their MO.

Butler does not have the confidence that LeBeau had. I think to Butler, to let someone rove like Troy did would be an insult to his scheme.

My confidence in Steeler ownership has declined like the economy but I honestly believe that, barring something unforeseen, Watt will retire a great Steeler.

Steelers control Watt this year, plus he has 5th year option which was a no brainer to pick up.

Then you still have that tag in the pocket. I don't think Steelers want to go down that road. (See Le'veon Bell faisco)

But we can control Watt for this year and two more seasons, before he could ever hit the open FA market.

    Happy B'day!

    Let's see a picture.....

Is a throwback jersey for a current/future player an oxy-moron? Back to the future?

I was trying to compare it to the ones for sale on shopNFL.com and couldn't because there are at least 3 different variations on there. Anyways I liked how the 70's throwbacks looked and ordered a Bettis one too.
